Okay, she's a 1989, wearing 1987/1988 wheels, I do believe.
The full length upper door sill moulding and the door attached mirrors makes her a 1989 or a 1990. She is Sterling Silver with Titanium Grey Interior & the black roof.
What caught my eye is that she is THE only other car, other than my Azura Blue one to have the 360-degree bumper-body-bumper accent tape stripe, here in black. It was listed ONLY on the 1990 ascMcLaren options listing, but I was told that a hnadfull + of the late 1989s had it as well.
Stripe colors were Black, Dark Blue, Red, Silver metallic and White. I believe 7 of the 65 - 1990s were so equipped. $ 65.00

Shes beautiful... maybe a repainted '88 with the striping? Wonder where the picture was taken. _________________ Mike

Augusta, Georgia Car Show, I believe.
I have now (in 18 years) found 3 units with the $65.00 360-degree moulding tape stripe. Listing shows 7 made for 1990. I was told "about 10" for 1989. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

I like it, excepting for the way the GT front trim differs from the LX trim used on the rest of the car.

Bill, help me out here. I don't understand. What part of the car looks LX to you, and what part (or parts) look GT to you?
The entire thing looks "GT" to me, with the exception of the taillights, which look custom to me, as they are neither LX nor GT. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

Because what mclaren or ASC should have done is have ford or someone build another bumper cover to match the LX trim. Or do what they did with the coupes - leave the LX bumper cover on there and build another air-dam.... They unfortunately get the GT bumper cover which has the built-in BIG molding strip 'gap'....

Sandy,
The gt trim has the little air inlet trim in front of the wheels, and I think the air inlet shape is different in the front and center / bottom as well.
Now the ground effects in the middle of the car do not have the air inlet thing in front of the back wheels, which the gt's do.. |

Never bothered me. They are unique, just as the new Shelby 500GT is.
After all, they also say Mustang nowhere on the car, only ascMcLaren, so, they have their own unique style. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

It's the slot in the trim where on this car they added the stripe. It just bugs me that the slot on the front bumper is wide (GT) while the slot on the rest of the car is narrow (LX).

Yes, I have noticed that for years, and of course we knowthe reason why, being that they put the GT front fascia onto a LX, but it has never bugged me. They had no alternative other than to cast & manufacture a correct one and then that's $$$$ !! Allthought I didn't do it, in the name of stock, I always felt the interior needed, no, begged for a wood kit, to take her uptown a bit, and hide some "color-keyed" plastic. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. Sandy, I beg to differ. My '88 is living proof. It is an earlier '88 and has the door attached mirrors and the upper door sill moulding. And I've seen other '88s like this. _________________ 1988 ASC McLaren #688 |

Y'up. Mine has the vert mirrors too.
Plus that silver car has 87-88 side skirts. _________________ 1988 ASC McLaren #709 |

You could be correct. The side ground effects are 87 & 88. I seriously didn't pick up on that. I have also seen a few 88s with the door mounted mirrors - but, I have never ever seen the full length upper door sill plastic moulding that continues forward to the exterior mirror base on any 1988. Only 1989 & 1990s. I'd say she is a 1988, that had the moulding added later. On closer inspection, the wheels are custom and not 87/88. Close but not exact. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

The door and other mouldings bugged me the first time I saw the car.
I have a 93 Cobra rear bumper and GT mouldings for my McLaren if I can ever get off my new motorcycle and get back to work on it. _________________ '06 Z4M Roadster

Yes, you are correct, and I know better. I was mentally thinking CAPRI as I mentally went "all the way back" instead of mentally going back to 1987. I have seen a couple of hand fulls of 1987 Mustang McLarens with the side view mirrors attached to the "A" pillar.
You see, unlike major manufacturers, when the stop using Part 123456 on Exactly December 13th, these smaller manufacturers use them until the going out product is all done & gone. If it's a color keyed item (side mirror) they will run out of certain colors before others, so it's normal to see a later car with the old product and an older car with the newer product. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012.
