I'll get some pics to you this week...I've been putting in alot of time at work so I probably can't get to it till the weekend...
I'm 99% sure you won't have problems with the 17x8 with 235's. _________________ 1988 ASC McLaren #709 |

where can I view your car again?
REALLY?! 17x9 all around? I didn't think that would fit, you say you have mild rubbing, but not much. I'm impressed. I think I'm going to go with 17x8s w/235s in the front and 17x9s w/255s in the rear.
If your not having any trouble with your 17x9s all around, I feel much better. I was leary about ordering wheels and not haveing them fit.
Thanks |
If you remember I said I have 17x9's w/255's all around. Just take a look at my photo album. BTW I went to the bodyshop and took the pics so the car is still a work in progress lol.

Hi all,
Well, I finally did it, got the Cobra Rs.....
While I love the way it looks (and handles) now, I do have a problem. Rubbing in the front.
I have 17x8s in the front, 17x9s in the rear. 255/40/17s all around. How bad is the rubbing? well, some would say bad, others maybe just a little. When I turn the wheel to either side it occurs I'd say 2/3 rds of the way of a whole turn.
Now, I've contacted AFS and they are taking a militant stance right off the bat. I was extremely nice and not accusatory at all, just wanted their advice/help. Keep in mind their online add boasts "no rubbing in the front with the 17x8 w/255 tires", but to back that up I called them. They assured me no rubbing. They are saying that "they" don't offer a 235 size tire, which I'm thinking MIGHT clear up alot/most of my problem. I haven't even brought up to them yet, exchanging OR returning the tires.............yet. not sure what to do. OH, I forgot, they are INSISTING and telling me that since I've owned the car someone has changed the suspension too. Love that.
Now, what about putting steering rack limiters on it? Anybody know much about this? had it done? how bothersome is it?
So, anyone, anyone, Buehler? ideas?
Thanks! _________________ 1988 ASC McLaren #688 |

it should be real easy pull back inner tie rod boot clip on limiter and reinstall boot. i think the racks in fox body cars come with 1 limiter on each side already, try adding one to each side to make it 2. _________________ ~Peter

How did you make out on this? Sorry they didn't fit right. AFS is horrible, they don't want to deal with you after they have your money. I tried numerous times to get in touch with them when the chrome on the Cobra R's they sold started to peal less then a year after I purchased them.

| Let me chime in. I was concerned about the same thing. I just got some 17 x 9 cobra R's for my 87 convt and I just put some 255 40 17's on the front, no rubbing at all. I was surprised. I dont know if the person that had the car before me did anything to the car, but everything is stock to my knowledge. Good luck, Now I'm thinking about going with some Real Bologne on the back, maybe some some 295 if they'll fit on the 17 x 9 rims. |

Sorry for the delay...
Here she is with the 17 x 9's. The tires are Nitto Extreme 245/45/17's. The wheels DO NOT stick out farther than the wheel lip, just an optical illusion.
