I had tried to sell my 85 ASC Capri convertible the last few months but had little response. I was very surprised at the lack of response to my adds on multiple sites.

I recently took a step back and gave it a good thinking over and figured out the reason I wanted to sell the car, it's because I like to modify my cars, change and add stuff, I'm a tinkerer (is that a wird lol). I have these urges to mess with my cars, add different items to slightly customize them. I had hesitated because it a rare car and I didn't want to mess with it, but I have decided to keep the car and do the following:

1- Install a used 1998 Explorer 5.0 engine with factory GT40P heads.
2-Convert EFI from CFI to Mass-Air and add the later model Intake system.
3-Convert from a auto to a T5 Manual transmission
4-Install a 83 Capri RS hood and scoop
5- Install full ASC ground effects from Hank at ASCMCLAREN.COM
6-Get the car painted Black, change the color from red/orange

I'll keep all the original stuff so the next owner can put it back to original if they decide to. I plan to start doing this over this winter, watch my slow progress at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2448357 .

WOW from ARREST me RED To Black I would not do. Red and Tan Int. has my name written all over it. But I need a rear seat at least for another 13 years. I would do all of the things you said. Change to a 4barrel. Less work and maybe upgrade the Auto. And drive it like you STOLE IT.........

But most of all enjoy it and drive it.

thats my 2 cents!

Huh, not sure what to say, but black is soooooo common. Is there less than 35k on her? Maybe we could trade? I doubt it, but the red are much better looking and fewer in supply than the black. I do like the other improvements with the exception of the hood. Just MHO, but keepin it stock lookin with a power house hidden is just awesome!!!

Good luck,

My car has about 55K on it, very very clean on the underside but the car has had a lot of paint & body work over the years before I bought it.

Here's my problem with Red, I currently own:
Red 2000 Ford F150
Red 1987 Mustang 5.0 notch back (well, it's Maroon, almost red)
Red 1985 Mustang SVO
Red 1985 McLaren Capri convertible
Red 1968 Mustang Fastback Shelby clone

I am bored with Red, I need a change. I would possibly take you up on you offer to trade for your Black car but you are on the opposite side of the country and shipping is way too expensive.

I like Mass-Air EFI, once you have all the bugs work out they run nice and strong, I need to go through emmisions here in Connecticut and putting a carb on will fail me, they check under the hood so I need to stay with EFI.

The current AOD was upgraded by the previous owner, it has a high shift point at 2800 so it's a pain in the butt to cruise in. I decided if I am going to go through all the work to pull the transmission to fix this issue that I'll just put in a T5 instead, I've done this swap on a few Fox body Mustangs and it's a easy swap. The AOD is big and heavy and robs horse power, T5 is small and lite.

I agree with you, drive it like I stole it. I want to make it more fun to drive, hence these changes.

Bored with red? Is it possible to be bored with the greatest color ever?

Just kidding. Have fun with your project.

That's a fine-looking dog that you have there.

She is the best dog I've ever had. She's a 3 year old Golden Retriever, her name is Phoebe. Great with kids, loves to play, just a very nice friendly dog. If you have kids and are thinking of getting a dog, Goldens are the way to go IMHO.
