Someone asked a day or two ago about 6-Cyl. 1986 Mercury Capri ascMcLaren 3.8SC 2-Seat Roadster production numbers.
I replied that I was pretty sure I had them I don't ~ the reason is / was that I knew that I had the VINS and there's a digit IN the VIN that tells if the car is a V-8 or a "6" - Well late last night I had a chance to go looking... I located the 1986 listing ! Sadly, they only listed the LAST 6 digits of the VIN, omitting the beginning & the middle in which the digit that represented the motor was listed. I intend to continue to look, as I was pretty sure I once saw it, but I have alot of big brown envelopes to look in. I will continue to search.
I do do recall disscussing these cars with one of the big boys there, at the time. He told me that the rarest-of-the-rare was a 6 Cyl WITH the optional fog lites & ground effect skirting. All of the sixes HAD to HAVE Automatic Tranny. So, it was an automatic & the rarest would hacve been in the ASC White, as they called it. The cars were made BEFORE the Paris Blue, Atlantic Blue & Sterling Silver entered the build, he recalled, so they were all Guards Red, Jet Black or ASC White, with the Sand Beige Interior and a Tan top.
There were 4 combos
Red Body Sand Beige Interor & Tan Top
Black Body Sand Beige Interior & Black Top
Above, with a Tan Top
ASC White with Sand Beige Interior & Tan Top
Would be cool to have one with the Ground Effects Pkg AND the Recaro Seating !! _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

I just now spent 70 minutes looking thru 20 pounds of stuff ! I FINALLY FINALLY found it !!
They made 25 - 1986 Mercury Capri 3.8SC 2-Seat Raodsters.
The memo says that all 25 were given the "Sports Decor Group" (Ground effects all around & Fog Lamps in the Air Dam. Says all had Leather - some the regular Capri 6-Cyl Seats, recovered in leather, & a few with the Recaros. About a 60/40 split (60% w/Recaros.) ALL Automatics.
Red, White, Black and a couple Blue. (??)
There was NO charge to the dealer for the Sports Decor Group (it was a "gift" - but it was listed on the window and counted in the Retail List Price.
Okay? Tired from lOOOOOOking & going to bed, for now..... _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

iirc the one and only 6 cyl car i have seen in person did NOT have the ground effects. it was red with one tail pipe (if 6 cars had one tail pipe and the rear valance has cut outs for 2 tail pipes what did asc do?) recaros and tan seats. i was also always under the impretion that sandy didnt have any numbers on the 6 cyl cars. also look at the cun numbers fredzilla posted they are only 2 off from eachother. sandy you said you had a list of the cun numbers for the 86 cars. maybe there is a large group of numbers that are all in a row? maybe 25 numbers? _________________ ~Peter

The #s are all very close, every now & then there are a couple of skipped #s.
(Talking 86 Capri Coupes & 'Verts).
The Ground effects on the car you saw, might have been damaged & removed by owner. The other side hole for dual pipes was left empty. THAT I vividly recall lOOking at _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.
