Stripes/Logos
----------------------------------------------------------------
No convertibles left the factory with stripes.

All 25 1984 Coupes were the dark blue with the orange striping.
The 1st 90 1985(s) were the same.
The last 60 1985s were white with the orange striping.

Beginning in 1986, the buyer (whether it was the ordering dealer
for inventory or a retail buyer) had a choice of anything offered!
Some combos were never made.....Ones that were made for 1986 include:--

The two aforementioned above for 1984 & 1985 plus these additions
that were exclusively 1986:-
Black with Silver striping (with Orange was available, only one
was made).
White with Silver striping (with Black was available, but none made).
Charcoal Grey with Orange, with Silver, with Black striping
(all were made).
Platinum Silver with Black striping (N.A. with any other stripe
colors).

IF IF IF IF the ordering dealer did NOT specify the color for the
decals, ascMcLaren installed the Popsicle Orange on the blue, grey
and white cars. The Raven Black cars got the Platinum Silver
striping/logos and the Platinum silver cars got the Raven Black
Striping.

However, dealer/customer could order ANY stripe color on any paint
color by making THAT known. I have located a couple of Raven Black
cars with the Popcicle Orange striping and a Smoke Metallic car with
Platinum Silver Striping as well as an Oxford White car with Platinum
silver Striping. I have also located a Full Package car with NO striping,
nor logos EVER, and a handful of blue cars with Platinum Silver striping.

Two special cars were made for the Miller Brothers, owners of Carlise Auto
Shows. One was black with GOLD striping & the GOLD wheels from the ragtop,
the other was the dark blue with GOLD striping & the Gold wheels from the
ragtop. The black car has been totalled & is gone, the blue one exists in
reasonably decent condition.

A few (exact # unknown) black coupes were made without a single bit of
striping, decals or logos. My ascMcLaren contacts says "about 4" but at
least 2 were made from first hand knowledge. Owners requested no stripes,
nor any type of decals on their 1986 Coupes. The cars had the chrome MERCURY
emblem in the grille, nothing on the sides, and a chrome ascMcLaren emblem
on the right side of the hatch lid, just above the right side taillamp. Both
examples were black cars.

1986 Eurocoupes
The EuroCoupes only came with the single orange pin-stripe on the beltline
molding and "asc/McLaren" chrome emblem in the grill. An orange ascMcLaren
decal should be on the tailgate hatch door just like a full packaged coupe
would have. They also had a very small decal (ascMcLaren) on the outside of
the plexiglass 1/4 window (the black ones that asc installed). The location
was the lowest edge and close to the "B" pillar. THAT is/was the same decal
that had been used on the dash panel of the 1984 coupes. asc was not really
sure WHERE to stick them!!

There was one 1988 ascMcLaren Coupe made on a Mustang. It was ugly. It had a
body length stripe that started this thin ____ and increased as it went to the
rear. At the rearmost it was 3" thick. Later the car was put back to stock
contition. It was black, the stripe was silver.

----------------------------------------------------------------
Placement and Changes in Stripes/Logos
----------------------------------------------------------------
1984
Hood has an off center ascMcLaren decal on the raised hump part. In the
grille, off center.......way off center on the driver's side should be a
chrome (plastic) mercury emblem. On the rear deck lid, on the passenger's
side, just above the taillamp assembly another decal ascMcLaren. There was
on the dash an "Orange Emblem" decal on the passenger side.

1985
Same as 1984 but On the dash panel, in front of the passenger is nothing.

1986
The hood decal was removed. The chrome plated plastic mercury emblem was
covered up with a brushed aluminum looking ascMcLaren emblem. (Ford didn't
want their copywrited name on the car!!! They had to cover or remove the
mercury. To remove it left two good sized holes, so it was better to cover
it & cover it they did. On the deck lid was the same ascMcLaren decal as
was in 1985. On the dash, in front of the passenger was a brushed aluminum
looking emblem that was kinda like this:-
LIMITED EDITION (big space to right) #_ _ _
It should be noted herein that EuroCoupes were NOT numbered, and had nothing
in that location.

I have seen 1 or 3 1985 with the 1986 in-grill emblem on the dash, but in
each case, it was affixed there by the owner or a prior owner. Maybe some
were put on at ascMcLaren....being hand made they were not all 100% identical.
However the grand majority were plain on the '85s.

Regarding the hood decal. People liked it on the 84 & 85s, and ordered it &
put it on our '86s. That's why so many 86s have that, but no '86 ever came
from asc with it!
