Not mine!
Looks a little rough but it has the 140mph speedo, ground effects and it is manual!

thank goodness he has the factory halo seats. those racing seats look pretty bad. Also, I have never seen red carpet and trim in a roadster and the felt on the console is also red..
At least the seller is honest about the original mileage. That is very rare these days. _________________ Dan

Okay, brand new to this forum and it is interesting to see this car posted as it is why we registered with this forum. We are thinking about going to look at this car and while we are huge car buffs ('69 Mach 1 428 CJ, '69 Mustang Grande, '67 Cougar, '71 F100), we don't know anything about the ASC McLarens - other than we like the looks of them and we had an '84 Capri RS that we loved dearly Anyway, we've talked to the guy and he seems honest. The car supposedly was purchased at an auction 2 years ago by this guy's brother. The story is that the car was purchased at the auction many years ago and was never picked up. The title was lost during the time that is sat at the auction house. After much red tape the guy's brother was able to get a legitimate title. We have questioned some of the McLaren stuff that appears to be missing and he has sent pictures of the missing items. Of course, we're not sure how much there should be that isn't there, just the obvious. Our main question is, how hard is it going to be to get McLaren specific parts for it? We know that since there weren't many made, the parts are what could bust this car for us. Can anyone post pics of the seats that would show if the ones he has are actually '86 McLaren seats? It is obvious that the seats that he has are not from this car - they are gray. Is there supposed to be anything on the door panels that say McLaren? He says that it has a manual top - not motorized. We question that as we've never heard of a car of that quality having a manual top... It appears that the instrument cluster, glove box, etc. needs new wood graining. I saw it on the McLaren website, but is it available anywhere else? What color is the carpet and trim supposed to be if not red? Should it have leather interior or cloth? The good thing for us is that the body appears to be straight and the guy says very little surface rust. We do our own body work and painting so having little body work would be a plus! Any help that anyone is willing to give us would be great! Thanks! Sorry I posted this in the wrong place. I have reposted in the discussion forum. Admins, please remove if needed... Newbie mistake - sorry! |

OK, looking at the pics. She seems to be fairly complete.
If it were me, I'd keep the seats. They look comfy.
The door panels look original to the car.
Horn Pad is missing...you can get buy with a Ford/Capri horn pad and wheel (maybe even Escort) until you want to drop cash on the real deal.
You will need a bunch of stuff like weatherstripping, etc...the top will probably be an expensive purchase too.
In all honesty, I WOULD JUST REFINISH THE WOOD DASH. It looks complete and not broken? Just sand her down gently, and use a light stain. Then use a Poly coat on top. Worse case...you spent $10 and still need to get wood overlay from ascmclaren.com.

Go to the website below for good info and available parts. He bought out ASC of all the original parts years ago, so you can get NOS and some repro pieces as well as some salvaged body parts. I've bought several replacement parts and the SERVICE MANUAL section is a great resource with lots of info.

Interesting car. Besides the red interior, seats and steering wheel, it seems to have most of the parts. One thing that does stand out is that it started out as a factory Ford red car.
Unfortunately, a repaint is not cheap and the values are not shooting up beyond the costs to fix them up. _________________ Kevin Gold card MCA Judge for Fox Body

I prefe the look of the conv. with ground effects. And its a 5speed where most seem to be Auto's. As for the paint maybe a Earl Scheib paint job to make it fun drive.
good luck and Welcome |
