Re: Engine bay restoration

Mine is an 86 convertible of course. Any engine bay photos would be appreciated, even the years before or after. I sent a message with my email. As to the after market houses, they all seem to say "original" or 'better than'. Once I see some pictures I'll make my selections. thanks

Engine bay restoration

My engine bay looks like old spaghetti. The previous owner fiddled around a lot so I'm missing spark plug wire looms and connectors, other wiring laying draped over and not held in place etc. Anyone have some good picture of a decent engine bay? Where are you getting your original parts sourced ...

Re: 86 engine performance

I found a mechanic who was raised on 80s Fords. It is as many of you say; check vacuum leaks, test sensors, check firing order. The last guy switched two cylinder wires, the TBS voltage was set too high, and the vacuum hose to the MAP sensor was disconnected. Now she runs fine as set up with the ...

86 engine performance

Hi all. I own an 86 Merc convertible in decent shape, but was underwhelmed about the performance. So I put on an 87 HO upper manifold with 70mm throttle body before I discovered the speed density FI isn't able to compensate for the extra fuel/air mixture. Now of course I have irregular idling ...

all thumbs radio

Not to beat this to death, but the more I ask you guys about what radio the more information you all give that all points towards a radio none of us can afford or doesn't exist. So I have an 86 ASC McL capri vert. I'm 70 and want to tool down the road listing over the road noise to some talk radio ...

AC won't turn off

I'm doing some pre-season maintenance. I noticed the A/C evaporator (?) is always frosted whether the A/C is off or not. Don't know anything about it, so what is not working here? thanks

Thanks for your response. With the help of a few suggestions and a friend or two with more mechanical sense than me, we got the catches to work. But, it seems to have revealed some failings in this car that need addressed real soon. I'll email you with those concerns. Thanks

New owner could use information

Hello from western Pennsylvania, USA. I just acquired an 86 white ASC McClaren convertible. I got it locally from someone who bought it out of Florida a couple years back. Seems to have 0 rust, but time will tell as i crawl under it to replace bits and pieces. The car came with no owner's manual or ...

Need carpet and help

Hello, I'm the proud owner of a Mercury McClaren convertible - white with blue interior. The former owner had a dog who ripped up the carpet on the back shelf/seat. Does anyone have the carpet cover? I could also use an owner's manual, and a shop manual if one exists. Thanks
