I agree with what you said Mike, except as the powertrain becomes more and more the proverial "black box" fewer and fewer people will be able to crack it open and modify it using basic shadtree mechanic/computer hacker/electronic hobbiest/armchair lawyer skills.
Instead we will become more and more dependent on people specializing in these specific areas.
Boy I wish I would have been 20 years old in 1950, I would have had a good time living through the golden years of racing and performance cars! All you needed back then was mechanical knowlege, a good ear and a lot of gas.........ah.........I mean gasoline, of coarse.

GOOD! Then when I go to restore a car in 30 years, I won't have to worry about some dumb ass having screwed with that part of the car!DaytonaTim wrote:I agree with what you said Mike, except as the powertrain becomes more and more the proverial "black box" fewer and fewer people will be able to crack it open and modify it using basic shadtree mechanic/computer hacker/electronic hobbiest/armchair lawyer skills.
I see what you mean though...I don't think the individualism will go completely away though. My thoughts are that as the tech progresses, it will modularize the components in some shape and you'll see tweaks people can do. But probably limited as you suggest.

As far as govt limiting the amount of vehicles one can own, I doubt that cause it will limit the economy besides one person can only drive one vehicle at a time no matter how many they own.
Today we even see allot of cars cloned (similar in appearance) cause of the risk of being different. Imagine if there was only one or two major manufacturers? It will all look the same.

You have to also think, if we ran the car off of hydrogen then we would all be driving around on wet roads (Big HazardDaytonaTim wrote:There is one major flaw in that video clip. I work in this field and I see it every day........
The part where the host asks "Where do we get the hydrogen?"
His sidekick answered "Seawater"....................... not the whole answere.
It takes seawater AND energy. Now, where do we get the energy......?
Oh, I know, we can burn coal or oil or natural gas......... but wait a minute, don't they cause pollution.
Yes..... and there in lies the problem...... until we discover the first "Hydrogen mine" or get nuclear fusion working we will always be tied to the traditional fuels of the past.
But here in Northwest Washington it don't matter because in the winter it rains all the time anyway
