Correct Decal for 5.0 HO EFI Air Cleaner

Post by Agent-J »

I am looking for the NOS correct decal for a 1985 5.0 HO EFI air cleaner. The factory one almost appears to be either a dry transfer or paint. The ones I have found are a thick vinyl and look nowhere near the factory look.

Any help is greatly appreciated

I wish I had an original as I could easily make it with my equipment!

Decal

Post by svo413 »

I replaced the decals on my air cleaner. I think I got it from PPI but I doubt they made it.

I took the aircleaner lid off and mounted it on a spindle for a small buffing wheel. I clamped my drill in a vise and mounted the spindle in the drill chuck. I used green scotch brite while spinning it. It polished up nicely. Looks like new. Then I applied the new decals.

Received decal today from Jim Osborn's not OEM looking at all.
1. To thick the (original appears to be painted on but can not confirm this)
2. Gloss Black (should be almost a satin black)

Disapointed if anyone know how the air cleaners where made please let me know at this point I am at a loss.

Thank, Jim

Call them and complain. If these vendors don't know how much their stuff sucks, they won't have a clue that they need to improve.

They are supposed to be the best out there for repros of this nature.

The originals either were painted on or they were an extremely thin decal transfer.

You could ask over at FourEyedPride. There are a couple of guys over there in the Graphic/Sign business I think offering to reproduce various things.

I haven't had the chance to dig too deep yet, but everything relating to the engine of the 84 ASC convertible looks to be the same as the 20th anniversary Mustang convertible. My father-in-law has two of them, so we can compare the cars side-by-side. That decal is the same for both cars.

I have an original lid to compare to I was hoping to restore a lid for my 17k mile 1985 all original 50SC. The air cleaner lid is the only thing in question. I have tried to find an NOS OEM lid with no luck and yes I have called Hank. I guess I am to much of a perfectionist to let this go it is the only thing wrong with the car and would like to correct if possible.

Thank you for all of the suggestions, Jim

I have seen a NOS CFI lid on ebay maybe once. The carbed ones come up every 6 months or so (I have 2 complete NOS 85 carbed units).

I sold a NOS CFI base with a new chrome lid for $70 a while back. Nobody wants them at all.

Call GreenSalesCompany.com and get some part numbers. See if you can get the part number for the lid and for the entire assembly.

Then look on partsvoice.com with the part numbers and call also your Ford dealer. You might get lucky.

Agent-J,
if you havent had any luck by this up coming February, head to auto-rama at Cobo. there is a decal vendor who has a massive amount of different decals. alot are NOS.
i know for a fact he has those aircleaner decals. i am pretty sure he is there every year. i bought a nos blue 79-82 turbo RS decal a few years back for cheap. he deals in all makes & models for all years.
he has one of the vendor booths along the walls.

Looks like the same one I have and mine is a "thick" decal. I would ask the guy before you buy it.
