Lets be honest here. We are talking the same color and possibly optioned cars, one has a different color striping kit. Does anyone really think that it is going to rock Barret Jacksons Auction cause of this? I just picture some one spend $200 for their own color stripe kit and better yet lime green to be even more different. Or a 16 year old boy buying an older Capri making the exact same car for 1/10th the price and not afraid to drive it all the time. Colors or stripings mean very little if there is nothing backing it. Just look at how the ASC McLaren Buick GNX is all the same color and style but worth $125k! Or the 1989 Turbo Trans Am all the same colors but worth at least $25-$35k depending on condition. Any comments?

Nick,

Is all in what you want, I think that orange stripes on a black car look awesome, that is why I wanted the car, it was originally that color. I don't buy cars because of what I feel they may bring at auction, I buy what I like.

As far as the GNX deal, they are fast cars, neat, but I think they are one of the ugliest cars ever made, I feel sorry for the awesome 3.8 turbo engine in a GNX or GN, they didn't get a good looking body until Pontiac fought with their sister division, and stuck a 3.8 turbo in a Trans Am. I wouldn't spend 125K for a GNX or GN, I may for a Trans am, but I don't ever see myself owning a GM product, but who knows. I have always lived by the philosophy you can make a nice looking car faster, but you can't fix ugly!

But "ugly" is subjective, in the eye of the beholder. Everyone agrees on FAST ~ as well what is NOT fast...

This car isn't a 1 of 1 if I'm following correctly. It was orignally raven black with silver which is not a 1 of 1 situation. If it was from the factory with raven black and orange then it would be 1 of 1, stripe colors were changed on this car rare-asc.

Just want to get it straight

Sandy,

Can we get a final confirmation regarding the original stripe & wheel color on this car?

As David pointed out, in this thread:
http://www.ascmclaren.org/phpBB/viewtop ... c&start=30
you had stated:
Onto the car....'ya, she looks real good to me, too. Not tampered with badly at all. In checking production records VIN 609475 was indeed originally "Raven Black" in paint !! She was recieved BY ascMcLaren on Feb. 6th '86 and was converted into an ascMcLaren on Feb. 8th '86 and was shipped out on Feb. 10th '86. She is a full packaged ascMcLaren and the Pop-Up sunroof was original from FoMoCo. It was originally a 5-Speed car so it hasn't been converted. The decals, logos, and stripe-work were originally as you see it, in "Popsicle Orange" ~ They didn't list Power Door Locks/Remote Hatch Release, so I can't tell on that.

It is one of very very few in Raven Black WITH the Popsicle Orange decals, as the "Suggested" {from ascMcLaren} tapework with the Raven Black was the "Platinum Silver Metallic" tapework, declas, logos.
Somewhere in the past, I believe that I saw that only 1 car (this car) was made in that combination. However, now that I wanna go back & find that info, I can't seem to locate it ~ just to verify for myself.
Then, in this current thread you state:
It's a Real ascMcLaren, first of all and it was originally RAVEN BLACK, as pictured.....and here now is THE surprise...It was originally made with the SILVER stripes, Decals, and LOGOS, and of course.......THE Silver Wheels that is wearing !! It was recieved at ascMcLaren on February 6th of 1986 and was converted into an ascMcLaren on Feb. 8th 1986 and was shipped out on Feb. 10th 1986.
Are we all happy, now ? I know I am.
Thanks,
Brent

I checked again.
Under Paint Color it says "Raven Black"
Under Stripe/Decal color is says Popsicle Orange and then there is a line thru Popsicle Orange and to the right it says (this under stripe/Decal color) it says Platinum Silver.

Now did ascMcLaren Change it, OR was Popsicle Orange enter in error and the list was corrected ? Me? I'd go with the Platinum Silver, only because I have found others on the listing(s) here & there ~ and some were convertibles others were coupes and the so called "correction" was always what the owner agreed the car was. All I have to go by,is past experience.

At one time I got a phone call from a man and he asked me to loook up his 1986 Capri Conmvertible. I told him the listing said ascMcLaren red, as THAT is what was printed on the list (however, it was crossed out & written in - in free hand - was Keweenau White. The man shot back "RED" ?? - She is WHITE !

This has happened a few times over the years, but not alot. Perhaps 4-6 units.

Sandy,

A big thanks for looking again and clarifying what you found. I agree, based on that info it sounds like this car most likely originally had Platinum stripes then and not Popsicle Orange.

Thanks again. :notworthy:

There has been so much discussion of this car i thought we were ref to the car as to it being orig black/orange that is what i was ref too. So in any case it still is a rare one not 1 of 1 but mayby 1 of ? something pretty dang low :!:

I totally agree, in the world of rare production vehicles, our ascMclarens are about as rare as they come. And in the case of this car original being a Raven Black Coupe with Platinum stripes & wheels, its 1 of 40 that were built in that color combination which personally is my favorite color combo for Coupes.

My experience has been that Coupes tended to lead a much rough & tumnle life, frequently falling into the hands of first-time-drivers around age 17 or so, and frequently had multiple crashs thereafter. The survival rate for Coupes has been less than spentacular. If it was 1 of 40new, I'd guess it's now 1 of under 25 left that is driveable, and probably 1 of 18 that still looks fairly decent. Most of the decent ones left, are on this board.
