I'd say so.......

The reason I don't just say barn is because that makes it sound like its a farmers hay barn with huge gaps and no floor. Pole barns are finished off, usually have a concrete floor, insulated, some are heated.......

mine has 3 windows, a large 14' wide overhead door, wood burning stove and I am currently putting in a bathroom in one corner.

These "pole" barns have come along way since the '80s. Very fancy.

I guess out here in the midwest there is just more room to have facilities.

Shelby, here in N.J. the hunk of land that above pole barn is on, woulda be bought by 3 "investor's" from New York City, who would have had one of those investors a real estate mogel, another an attorney and the 3rd a $$$-man. The real estate mogel who have re-calculated the property as Okay for the proposed building in size and accessability, the lawyer wholda seen to it that eveything was "correct" and your pole barn would have been bought from you for $750,000. Torn down and a luxury condo woulda been built. 2 & 3 bedrooms 1.5 baths, outdoor parking only, no children, no pets, etc, etc and they's sell for 1 million each for the 2 bedrooms & 1.6 mil on the 3 bedrooms. When they sold #1 they'd have back what they paid you.
That's why I've never seen a Pole Barn !!

A garage is built like a house on a foundation with a board bolted to the cement and studs every 16 on center or so. And a pole barn is 6x6's or such dropped into a hole 36inchs deep with a bag or two of cement throw in for good measure. and the 6x6's are like 12-16 feet long depends on height of building. Cement floor added later. A barn is much like a garage built on a foundation Most notable from the red or white color and built many years ago.

me I have them all and a couple extra not talked about yet.
Milk house, grainier(sp?),car port, tomatoe barn, corn crib. Oh ya lets not forget semi trailer which I'm hoping to add to the list. 8.5feet by 48feet long would make a nice clean storage place for cheap.

if i think back to a law class i had in school a "pole parn" is a non taxable foundation like a moblie home all it is is a big pice of cement. but a house or a garage is a building with a foundation and is taxable

shesh i never thought i would learn something in that class that no one knew about.

I guess that depends were you live. In NY you get banged on tax for any cement being a structure that is why there are so many blacktop driveways. Its always been cheaper to build upward or have a lower level like a basement. I would love to have something like this barn just for the same reasons as Sandy its impossible on Long Island.

Check this out on Wikipedia they list the various types as well as the pole barn.

Pole barns
A pole barn or a cattle barn in North America is a barn that is essentially a roof extended over a series of poles, they are generally rectangular and lack exterior walls. The roof is supported by the poles which make up the outside barrier of the barn.[6] The roof can be gabled or hooped. Pole barns are most often used for hay storage or livestock shelter. The advantages of pole barns include their low cost and their ability to store large quantities of hay in areas easily accessible by vehicles, machines and people.[7] This type of barn is very common in modern agriculture.

In the United Kingdom a pole barn refers to a type of Dutch barn.

Design
The design of most pole barns is simple. Poles make up the outer walls and support the roof, usually light, of metal or canvas. Depending on the function of the barn the there can be slight differences in style. For instance, a barn used for storing hay may lack any kind of lower exterior wall while a pole barn used to house livestock would have some form of wall meeting the roof.

pole barn

Post by svo413 »

Pole Barns come in all shapes and sizes. It's probably not worth the trouble for one any smaller than a 2 car garage. Like the earlier comment, they use 6x6 posts for the support walls and often prefab trusses for the roof. They go up quickly because there is no foundation most of the time. The really cheap ones have sheet metal walls and roof. The floor is usually a concret slab. I think 40' is the max width with out interior posts.

I built a 30x40 one with vinyl siding and Anderson windows for about $12K. A 20x20 framed garage with a foundation would have been over $25K. The larger commercial buildings have a steel frame instead of poles. A pole barn is good for 50 years or more. Pole barns are usually not restricted any more than any other type of building. They are taxed just like any other structure.

OMG I almost forgot to comment on the original subject that I was so excited about cause of going off topic lol. I think that is great news Sandy!!! I've been seeing this retractable Mustang on various other websites not knowing who was involved in creating it. the rumors were if Ford was going to make this for 2009 around the time the Camaro comes out.

Sandy your comments are dead on for the car, like our cars the rear decks have been noted to be to long with the tops down. I don't know how well this would be received to be honest. Were will it fit in? Right now a Mustang convertible costs $25k for a 6cylinder and $32k for a GT. Add on his estimate mark up of $15k and we are talking big bucks. A Pontiac G6 with a retractable top costs $29-35k. Heck there are some Mercede's SLK's in that price range too. Might be more cost effective for someone to buy a hardtop removeable and have both the soft and hard top for 1/10th the price and look virtually the same (no mention of the A pillar being lowered right?). In order for these cars to be a success they need to modify both looks and performance, ever here of all show no go? IMO have a retractable roll bar much like the Mercedes and that will take away from the long back end as well as add more safety and appeal. It should have a name behind it that people know. Imagine if he has Jack Roush join in on this venture and add some performance, thats name recognition for sure!

Oh had to go back and edit this cause I thought it may be worth it if even BBK can put their performance and name on it. This is all speculative on my part and passion, what do you think would make this a success? These cars would then be very unique and perhaps can justify such an investment from us consumers.

Nick :D

PS I am going to add some pics of Jack Roush from the car show I met him at last year.

Peter Muscat has orders in hand for 103. That leaves just 397 to go.
His target:-

Guys who like Mustangs, and want something strikingly different that others do not have. Performance is 2nd. To alter performance you run into piles & piles of red tape, and very expensive independant testing. You are altering EPA and all that.

Specificly this is for young(ish) males stuffed with $$$$ who want to make a statement, and are not "involved" mentally or track-side in 0-60 competition.

Sorta like SLK roadsters, or Volvo Converts, or Saab Converts. There certainly 397 other folks out there to snap up the remaining. Muscat is NOT Rouch, Saleen, and the others, he's a 1 man show, with some employees, and no mega million doller backers & investors.....
