To paraphrase an old saying; Too much of any one thing tends to dilute its effectiveness.....

Carroll Shelby AND Barrett- Jackson have become two of them, in my opinion.

Its gotten to be all about the almighty disposable dollar. Again, in my opinion, Carroll Shelby could give less than a rats @ss whether any of these new cars with his name on them have any "specialness" to them, As long as it keeps his name out there.
Why would any sane person spend gobs of money on a FACTORY car with his name on it, when you can have the same thing, WITH THE SAME FACTORY PARTS, for half that?

Don't even get me started on Barrett-Jackson. I'm still trying to figure out whether the whole kit & kaboodle is on dope or dog food.

BUT, AGAIN, THIS IS JUST MY OPINION

Too bad it didn't include the car!

Post by svo413 »

For $260,000. you would think the car would be included in the price. I'm guessing the auction proceeds went to Shelby's charity. I guess Ford was too cheap to donate the car for charity.

NO!!!! Not at all. I may not agree with the hype and sensationalism, but I do see the entertainment in watching guys with more money than foresight spend the GDP/GNP of a small country. :)

I can not believe that someone paid that much just for the right to buy vin 001. Yes the money went to Shelbys charity. I like to watch Barrett Jackson just to dream about what I could buy if I had that much money. It does seem a bit much to me, but if I had money to throw around I would definately buy a car of my dreams.

Pratte owns a large construction company out west..... I'm patiently waiting for the prices on the GT 500's to go down, I'd buy one today if I could get it at MSRP...

Hooray for Carol Shelby and his Children's Fund. If these guys have that much money to burn, where will it be better used?
I had an experience with him at the 35th Mustang celebration in Charlotte that I will never forget. My oldest son, a friend, and my youngest son had items for him to autograph. The friend went first, Carol said $25.00 for the autograph, same with my oldest son. When my youngest walked up, Carol said "yours is free". I have never forgotten that.

More like Robbing "Hood" Lol....

Unless you research how much goes to the actual children I would be concerned. Remember those Jerry Lewis telethons??? Jerry's kids??? What was it, something like only 10cents of every dollar made it to the children. Neat way to manufacture a way to make 90percent of all donations for hidden administration expenses. I am sorry for sounding so negative in this area but when it comes to giving I want to make sure it goes to the intended recipients.

Me personally as long as they are not missleading the people who work hard for their money thinking they are helping some poor kid who needs it vs paying for someones new Yacht or project to make more money power to yah. I have never met Carrol Shelby so take what I say with a grain of salt and a click of a mouse on an internet search lol. What I do know is he shows no loyalty bouncing from one car manufacturer to another. When he was at Chrysler the same thing happened to Mopar as is happening with Ford today. Going after everyone who made the tuner market a success and or giving their cars free advertisement. After meeting Jack Roush I can say he is an incredible man. He has done allot with Ford. Signatures, no charge for a child or get this an adult too! As many signatures as you wanted including pictures or free posters he signed for you. I get leary of people squeezing every dime from their fanbase. Carrol Shelby is the man cause of people like you or I say so. Lee Iacocca created a legacy even Larry Shinoda (RIP), Saleen has been doing so over the years, but truthfully aside of Shelby's name what is he really doing??? BTW I have a funny feeling I am right on this but if you remember when Ford came out with the 20th anniversary and called it the GT350 Shelby sued Ford for using that name. I strongly believe because of this very reason the new Shelby GT is not called the GT350 or even the Hertz model. As if Ford needed another GT having the Ford GT, Shelby GT, and Mustang GT, GT350 would be easier to recognize and truly nostalgic, sigh... Oh another thing, Shelby tried very hard to get the name Cobra from Ford. Maybe someone can help me here. I dont recall seeing the name Cobra anywere on the new Shelby Mustang's. Just the design of a Cobra not the words. Could this be for petty reasons too?

A mega millionaire, who charges fans $25.00 for his signature, has spoken volumes about his persona by so doing.

The Beatles never charged, if one was lucky enough to get one, and neither did Mick Jagger of the Stones, or anyone else of memory.

Shelby is charging fans, for being a fan !
