Nice looking example. If I was going to buy one of the Mustang versions, this is the color combination that I would want.

Definitely a nice looking and well kept vehical. I hate the front plate mounting, but realize it is the law to have a front plate. The turn down on the exhaust tail pipes is a turn off for me as well. I really like the straight out tail pipe with a cut out if needed in the lower facia.
I assume this one is all stock, but the 85-86 Red and Tan combo just look much better IMO. Still a really nice car! Hope he gets close to the asking price even though it seems a bit high. Thanks for sharing...

That's a sin !!
Dahberg, I am sure you know that the McLarens ((Mustang)) were based upon the Mustang LX 5.0 Coupe ~ therefore they have the turn down tip pipes.

Tailpipe style
Standard-issue LX 5.0's - coupe, hatchback, or convertible - all had stainless "bologna cut" tailpipes that came straight out of the back under the fascia - not turn-downs.
The only stock 5.0's to get the turned-down tips were the GT's, since the GT had the "taller" rear valence on the bumper cover.
The ASC's made after '87 were LX 5.0 coupes that came to Livonia with GT bits on them - including front fascia and exhaust, among other things. I assume this came via a special order code - just as the earlier coupes were done, ordered under the D32 (?) code.

Sorry Sandy, I am ignorant! My comments were more of a question than a statement. I am far from being an expert on body styles and options. I do like stock appearance on older model vehicles. It was not my intent to insult or offend anyone, just commenting on my personal preferences. I appreciate everyone on this site who helps me to better understand and know the difference between stock and modified! Frankly, I spend most of my time here and on FEP lurking to gather some knowledge.Sandy wrote:Dahberg, I am sure you know that the McLarens ((Mustang)) were based upon the Mustang LX 5.0 Coupe ~ therefore they have the turn down tip pipes.
Hope you are beginning to feel better day by day...

On no, from a balance sheet prospective, the ascMcLaren from day #1 was a financial nightmare. I mean, you purchase a FORD MUSTANG LX V-8 2-Door Sedan, with a basic option group....for $27,500 !
So, right outta the gate, Mr. Buyer is waaay upside down! Car stolen & totalled, Hey, sorrry man, it was a LX 2-Dr Sedan, 'Yo, title says nuttin 'bout no acs McAlaren, or whatever.... ((see?)) and from then on it's downhill......So, 'ya, the car is a see it want it gotta get it purchase.
But, at a 1987 - I mean, 20 years old, ans MINT MINT MINT, for $17,000 really how much could one really lose? But, 'ya, you need to pay cash or take a personal loan or a securred loan. Keep the Title in your vault - you really don't want a car loan on a Mac-A-Lauren !!

Yes, that's financed! The bank takes a shot, and makes $$$$. I am talking LOSS. As in stolen car then trashed....then they will pay out as if the car is / was an LX V-8 2-Dr. Sedan, because that is what the Title states. You pay a premium because it's a asc McLaren, but upon a total loss the ascMcLaren owner gets screwed. (Unless one purchases insurance thru a collector car insurance company, as I have, and then you can name stated value, and they (the company) and you (the owner) have a pre-agreement as to teh car's worth. (and...it's alot cheaper than normal typical insurance. Usually comes with a per year mileage cap, of like 5,000 or under miles a year.

In MD, at least, they have to account for options, etc, and pay you for the value of the car based on other. As it's easy to prove it wasn't "just an LX coupe" I would have little difficulty getting a reasonable payoff if it were to be totaled.

That is what you think! Regular car insurance only goes by what is stated ON your car's title. Other than that, they will tell you that they do not cover "customization" or after-market mods. Please, i've been in the automobile business for 35 + years and have delt with insurance companies, title companies, lost MSOs .... you name it, whatever.
Your total loss settlement will be based upon a 1989 Ford Mustang V-8 LX 2-Dr Sedan. Any add'l. monies you seek will be referred to a court of law, requiring an attorney to represent you, and will be messy .... real messy.
You NEED
http://www.grundy.com
They will cover your car with identical insurance that you presently have, plus a stated value of $20,000 on a total loss for about $1,000 @ year !
They also recognize the ascMcLarens (1984-1990) and insure many of them, including my 3 and my 1993 Sixty Special Trophy winning Cadillac.
I pay $4,000 @ year for the whole group. $100,000 worth of cars, and the insurance is 4% @ yr.
