85 coupe traded in on 86 Coupe #49

Post by ckj »

Well it's been a long week (5.5 days). I just completed a 4300 mile round trip from Gilbert Arizona to Hank's in Florida. I towed my blue 85 coupe there and brought back an 86 white/orange coupe #49. I used the uhaul car hauler and was overall very pleased with it. I didn't have any issues except the wind seemed to toss me around quite a bit. I think that is because I wasn't using a large enough truck (I used a 2006 Tacoma 4x4 double cab).

The car is #49, vin 607703 and was originally a Texas car! Thus the car has no signs of rust on it, anywhere. It's in great shape, but it has at least 10 separate runs in the paint from whoever repainted it last. I'm going to take it to a few paint shops today and have them look at it. It's missing the radar detector but has the alpine 7272. No unique options, no power door locks or no power hatch etc.

Hank had a second 86 white coupe (orange stripe, orange rims) sitting there and he said he is willing to sell it as well. The second car had power door locks and a sunroof, but wasn't in as good condition as this one. I believe it is the #002 car that we discussed that was for sale in florida a few months back.

Ok, here are some pictures of my new car..

NICE FIND !
For the small price, I simply cannot understand why dealers did not add the Power Locks, that included a locking fuel door and a remote hatch release and the Radar unit.

This car looks to be in really great shape. Best or Luck !

Sweet! Great looking car. Wow, gutsy deal, but this one is by far one of my favorites. While the Blue with Orange is awesome looking, I like the White and Orange combo in the coupes. Reminds me of a the orange and vanilla cream bar in reverse, drool...

Car looks amazing!

They came with orange wheels stock?

I believe the white wheels are the way to go.

Thanks everyone. I've been looking for this car for many years and finally have it. Not sure that I've ever mentioned it, but one of my friends in high school had a duplicate of this car (#32) and died in a car crash (in different car). It was the nicest car in our area where I grew up which is quite a compliment in Michigan. I've been dreaming of the car for close to 19 years!
His brother who was is a friend still has it (#32).

Yes, ordering dealer's choice, White or Orange rims on a white coupe.
Orange only on a EuroCoupe, however.... {Don't ask...I have NO idea why}

It has Orange wheels in the pics on Hanks site and is listed incorrectly as an 85. Did Hank switch the wheels out or does he have some the pics of the other white coupe mixed in with this one?? Honestly, on this car, I like thw white wheels better.

Hank listed it as an 85 incorrectly on his website. I'm sure it's an 86 due to the title, fuel injection and because it's numbered.

He had put the orange wheels on it but I asked him to replace them with white ones.

Good choice on wheels.

There's no doubt it's an 86. Odd that he would make that mistake.

Question as I am new to Eurocoupes, are all the EC's supposed to have the dash plaque? I recently aquired #13 and it does not is why I ask.

Also, the striping on this car and teh ASC decal on the hood look great, is that what my car is supposed to look like? The former owner of my supplied me with sime stripes, just was not sure where they went.

Thanks

Give me the last 6 digits of your VIN and i'll tell you if your 1986 is a "Full Packaged unit" or a "EuroCoupe" model.

Euros had the orange wheels, a painted rear spoiler to match car color, and a very thin stripe (orange) set into the recess of the 360 degree body moulding. They had NO dash Plaque. They had the red piping on the seats. Any of this sound familiar ?
