ascMcLaren authorized Dealer

Post by 1985 Motorsport Capri »

Sandy,
do you have a list of what you refer to as
"ascMcLaren authorized Ford Dealer" ?

just curious what dealers were selling them. i always though any ford dealer could order/sell an ASC (or Merc dealer with the capri's).

didnt know it was an exclusive club.

would be interesting to see if we/somebody could compile a list of asc dealers.

It's impossible to give you a COMPLETE listing, for the simple reason that it changed every year. A few would drop off, and several would pile on. I do have the listing for 1988, which as you know was the year that the most were ordered (1,015). 1987, 1989 and 1990 in total came to 791 So... I have 56 percent of rthe ordering dealers (the total in 1988) ~ but.... it's waaay too many to type herein and list. I mean some dealer joined, and for the entire year ordered 1 unit. Many ordered 2 or 3 and then fell off the earth !!
I do believe the listing goes 16 pages!!!

Furthermore, the list ONLY gives the dealership's name, and NOT the state (nor address). Now, some you can figure out, such as Albany Ford, you would know is in or near Albany, N.Y. Ones like that you could tell, but then take one like "Don's Ford" - - you'd have NO idea when the heck they were.
Scores of them are long closed up, or sold and now with a new name.
Dealers had to pay the conversion fee BEFORE the car was shipped! Usually around $10,000 ~ The Car part (from Ford) could go on the dealer's floor plan, BUT the ascMcLaren part was COD BEFORE shipment !

I don't think for this particular piece a scanner would work, only because the print on it is pretty faded - or was never very dark to begin with. There were ALOT, really..... ALOT of "dealers" who signed on in 1988. You have some that ordered 20 (or more) units and then many that ordered 1 or 2.

The largest one was a Dick McCustion Ford in up up up state N.Y 99 units, but he only got them to run thru an Auction in CANADA. Why? Idon't know, probably some lope-hole in taxes. After going thru as SOLD cars, they trickled back into America, where they were sold as used cars, many with 50 miles on them. But the details of this, I was never allowed to know......
BTW, that dealer is closed.

this is starting to sound like a very interesting topic that needs to be explored/researched.

The ONLY listing that I obtained, pre-1987, is the listing of 1986 Mercury Capri ascMcLarens. Convert, Coupe & EuroCoupe. I have no 1985, 1984, OTHER than Total number made, of each, which you all know.

I try to document what dealerships sold the Motorsport Capri's.

maybe with what Sandy has & contributions from board members, we could make a list.

break it up by state. and then break that up into year.

i can provide about 11 of the 30 pace cars original dealerships documented & can provide at least another 10 that sold one but dont know which vin/car.

Sandy, if you want you can photocopy what you have (crank the copier up to DARK to get the light ones) and mail them to me and I can scan them in.

Okay, but this week and next are gonna be really really really tough! Tuesday is 6hours at the hospital & Thursday is 2 hour return to be disconected from the pump and then I am real sick for 6 days & on the 7th day I am scheduled for dental surgery! Aftter that, I will have dental pain for like 4 days or so. So, the next 2 to 3 weeks are gonna be really bad, for me. After I get over all this I will make you photo copies.
Today I have a wedding to go to. I will be off board here from 4 to 10 PM.
(This is a huge, 1/2 day, all night, blown to the gates, $$$ be damned, 2-band, Kosher extravaganza 360 invite celebration wedding.
My best friend's son is the groom. A magician will entertain.

I am not sure that I have the stamina to do more than 3 hours, and it's an hour away. I can't drink, 'cause of the chemo in my body. Well, I am limited one glass of red wine.

1:17 am nyc tIME

I am home!! It was THE single best wedding I EVER WENT TO!!
Prime Ribs, Eggplant Ravioli , loads upon loads food. Food was five *
and service was lkikewise. 360 people MOBED with people. Some really sizzling hot women !! Damn! The groom is 30. My best & longest and closest friend's 1 & only. They arrived in a white stretch hummer and I witnessed the spending of $35,000 in 6 hours. We had a grand time.

Going to bed. I could NOT drink, cause of the Chemo. Shame.
But, i held up and felt simply great - like my old self. Sometimes, ya just gotta skip a session, as i did last week. (I'll pay for that).

Going to bed.

Oh. Peter, the food was great! Endless Choices. We had the Prime Rib. It was quite the feeling to attend the wedding of your best friend's one & only, whom I, Sandy, Held at his Briss, some 30 years ago!
