Hank may be your best bet as the parts (skirts) prices to him are negligible. Hank may buy it, but he ain't gonna offer a huge amount of money for it. With the way the economy is now, he can't even sell the cars he has.

Even the verts aren't bringing any money. Look at ebay to prove it.

The problem with selling it to an average person is:
- needs to be repainted - wish also needs an expensive stripe kit
- needs some asc parts (skirts, etc) - which is expensive.
- wheels have to be re-done

So - even at $5000, that will turn into a $10,000 car when all is said and done....

Worst part of selling these cars is that outside of this board and another 100 people scattered around the USA, nobody knows of them, and even fewer care. HOWEVER.....
if any of them, even a 50-ish housewife saw - start-to-finish how jsut one was made, they'd have 1,000 percent more respect or and be amazed what went into it.

When I sold cars, (27 years) when I wore a suit, 99% of the shoppers were decent with me. On Saturdays we went "casual with clothes and sometimes wore jeans. It was ALWAYS on a Saturday when some customers were nasty towards me & showed little respect.

Same difference with theMcLarens! I was the same person all 7 days.

Yes, but.....we have all seen far worse cars, brought all the way back to showroom condition. But....as we know what it takes (unlimited money and loads of time & patience.) I, personally do not posses any of those ! :)

Problem with the 'rare' word - rare 85 in this case (and mclarens in general)

- No proof on items
- we all know some cars had added or deleted 'stuff' that wasn't documented.

Using these two statements above,
One can add stripes around the hood and/or insert those two cups, etc., and no one can or cannot prove the authenticity of certain things.

My blue 85 coupe as well as I think Mike's has the 6" round speaker holes in the back. Not too many of those coupes are around I am sure. Where in the documentation does it show that ?

That has something to do with 2 options...

1. Delete Standard Stereo >> and

2. Radio Preperation Equipment

the stripes only went on the cars with the scoops... and to "add" the scoops you would have to steal them from a car that had them. you cant just make them.

i dont know what to say about the speaker thing but every 85 i have ever seen in person (only 2 cars) had the round speakers. i dont know about my car it had aftermarket kenwood 6x9s in it when i got her.

I would agree with you, but you see my point. Until we can have some 'other' authentic documentation, some 'stuff' to argue about of its 'rarity' is a moot point.

Although, like everyone else on here (hopfully) - it is still fun to see what things are different and discuss it. That is what a forum is all about...

At least we all have shown differences in enough in our cars to come to some conclusion on certain things the factory must or must not have done.... Kinda like creating our own documentation.

Just wanted to let you know that I am NOT a stick in the mud....

Peter, as stated, I was told that all 5 "Scooped" cars - each had a different stripe design!
1. Like the one we have been discussing. I'll call it two-stripe
2. Like # 1 above, but just a SINGLE stripe
3. NO stripe at all, but the off center of hood "dome" ascMcLAREN decal
4. Nothing at all, X-cept the scoops
5. If the 2 stripe one above (#1) had also an ascMcLaren decal off center on the hood, then #5 did NOT have that! If #1 above had no ascMcLaren decal on the hood, then # 5 did. I can't recall which was which.

You're showing us images of a different car. Notice the AutoWeek car does not appear to have pinstriping, and from what I can see of the ad, that car doesn't appear to have it either. jacarc1's car has the double pinstripe. Do you have any literature showing a car with a double-pinstripe?

I also see no evidence of a radio antenna either in the asc advertising. While I know this could have been edited out, I wonder if they would have or simply maybe removed the antenna itself or had a antenna delete plate on it. Just some things to think about it.

I was showing examples.

The last image evidently is his car.
