KHummel66 wrote:That was the determining factor on my getting my Cobra. I had always wanted a 308GTSi QV (and still love the look of the 308/328s). It was slightly less expensive in purchase price but when I found out the cost of some routine services, on a 15 year old car mind you, compared to being able to work on a Ford motor myself - making the decision was suddenly simple. Now if money were no object the decision would have been when to drive which one.
And I'll take a wild guess: you figured out the Cobra's pedals pretty quickly. I has one and they're certainly not made for American feet!

Glad they don't sell them to Toyota owners!

RareFox, I would never ever fold down a convertible roof THATY HAD PLASTIC REAR WINDOWS in a temperture lower than 60 degrees, and THAT only after leaving the car in direct sunlight, to soften the plastic to the point that it is easily flexable. BTW I have owned 3 converts, prior to my current 2 McLarens. Convertibles are like a healthy 80 year old woman. Meaning: They are healthy today, but tomorrow could be a big problem. Heat is their friend and cold is their foe.

Okay lets clarify something here even if OFF TOPIC. I own my Ferrari for 10 years now, so I know what I'm talking about. A 308 is very simple to maintain. NO engine out maintenance is needed on a 308. The belts can be done in car. It is expensive to maintain a Ferrari IF you follow ALL the maintnance schedule religiously and at the DEALER or specialist. How many of you guys follow the schedule for their actual car like the factory say and pay for ALL at the dealer. I personnaly do ALL myself. The belts can be done by any mechanic. Todays engine are MORE complex than these old Ferraris. My car is a carburated model with 4 two barrel Weber and I tuned them myself after reading how to do it. Regular maintnance parts are fairly cheap if you buy them at the right place. They are very reliable cars and VERY fun to drive and bring a LOT of attention. I never regretted my purchase, just like my ASC vert. I love all my cars :D

P.S. The pedals in a 427 Cobra are not the best either, at least in a close to original replica. The worst are the Pantera. The 308 is very easy to live with. I drove them ALL.

Gotta ask: Did the 308 come with a Detroit Tigers hat and Hawaiian shirt?

:D No it didn't, mine is not a targa top. And I don't have the big mustach either. The only thing I wish I had with it is the friend with an helicopter.

Where were you 15 years ago when I changed my mind about the 308?! :-) While I still love them, the looks alone wouldn't make up for the pure joy of the Cobra at WOT.

Hi HKummel66, you did a good choice with your Cobra. These are also very fun and special. 15 Years ago I didn't had my Ferrari so I would have been of no help for you I was driving my 69 GT 500. If you look at a 1997 Snap-On calendar in august there is a orange GT 500, it was my car. I just wanted to explain that the Ferrari 308 are not as bad to own as some people think, the Testarossa is different. Enjoy your cars and have FUN :D

P.S. maybe a cobra pic in the album.....

I do appreciate the info. Maybe once I've got the McLarens situated (and a bigger garage) I'll look into a 308 again. It's always stayed on my top 5 'want to have' list, and it's the most likely to be attained due to the affordability in market price - Countach's, Miura's, F355s, and 67 Shelby's will in all probability remain but dreams.

I've put a pic of the Cobra in my album. I had never done it previously since it isn't the focus vehicle of this board. Thank you for asking to see it.
