Good news (for me anyways) - the engine is not frozen!
I pulled the plugs and put in an old spare battery I have and tried cranking it over. The engine turns, but the starter sounds a bit rough and I don't seem to be hearing the fuel pump either.
Interesting side note. The plugs are Motorcraft brand; I'm wondering if they are the original plugs.

Do the plugs have paint dots on the tips? I have noticed that lately Ford paints the tips so to be seen when going down the lineKHummel66 wrote:Interesting side note. The plugs are Motorcraft brand; I'm wondering if they are the original plugs.

Check your safety switch behind the drivers side tailight. Open the trunk and pull the black liner back. You will see a switch that is black with a white button on the top. Push that button down , it should click. This is the fuel pump shut off switch used if the car rolls or gets hit in the back. Hardtop cars have a small rubber cap in the trim panel that covers it. Ford started to use these in all fuel injection systems in the mid 80's.

Thanks for the suggestion Chris. I did know about that already. When I push the white button, it doesn't click nor does it stay down. Is that a sign that the safety switch is bad?
I'm also wondering if the relay under the seat might be bad. It was sitting in a half inch of water when I first looked at the car.

Keith I think if it was in water you should replace that relay. For the rollover switch try to knock on it to see if it works.

Change the relay, The switch in the back should lock down to complete the pressure in the system. The relay must be rusted on the inside.
Hope this Helps!

Thanks guys! I'll start by replacing the relay. I'll see what the switch does after that. I appreciate all your help.

Also check your EMC box. The box is located on the passenger side. Remove the kick panel ( Below the glove box to the right) The ECM has a very large conn, with a bolt in the middle. The box should "Click" when you turn on the key. This sends power to the relay under the seat, to the rear switch, This may have gotten wet. If you need to replace the box, Most part stores will get you a rebuilt one for your old one. Cost is about $150.00

The ECM boxes can be tested by the parts stores, can't they? If the new relay doesn't fix the problem, it looks like I should check the ECM next, before the inertia switch and pump. Thanks again for all the input!

I think the pump relay is powered by another relay wich is the EEC relay possibly also under the seat or somewhere in the engine compartment. But I may be wrong since I'm going far back in my memory.

Some parts stores can test them,or will send them out for you!

if your fuel pump inertia switch button wont stay down then the switch is bad. this switch is NOT a roll over switch it is just an impact switch sorta like an air bag sensor. any impact will trip this switch aslong as it is hit hard. try un pluging the switch and jumping the wires to complete the fuel pump circuit. i also think you should replace the relay if it was sitting in water.KHummel66 wrote:Thanks for the suggestion Chris. Wishful thinking?? Actually, it's what's on the "Design Concept by" serialized body plate. I'm guessing that since it wasn't known that only 245 would be built until they were done building them, they started out with a 4 digit methodology to allow for at least 1,000.
