I guess I'm the umpteenth victim of the pull down motor. Last night I could not get my pull down motor to release the anchoring screw. (It was a beautiful evening and I was looking forward to driving home from the restaurant with the top down - nope, wasn't gonna happen.) :(

Anyway, is Hank the sole source for these? Are they rebuilt units or new?

Sandy, if they are cadillac trunk motors, can one be purchased through GM or get one at a junk yard?

Its been touchy a few times in the past, but I've always gotten it through those times.

The switch works fine, and the tonneau cover releases fine, it just wont let go of the screw.
The screw down motor is Nippon Denso, but the gear is either custom, or from a source I never could find.

I am still of the opinion that it is a production piece, judging by the way that the "nut" fits into the gear.

So does this sound like the gear problem? I'm going to check the wiring behind the switch tonight.

I see a rebuilt switch from Hank is $322, with exchange.

Anyone know about the possibility of using a cadillac trunk pull down motor?

Where can I find this Hank? My motor isn't pulling the top down. It is just spinning.

Finally I think the earlier type was less trouble. When it quit working you can always pull the cable. :-)

My 85 pull down was bad I got a working one from a full size Olds. I have also heard that the Lincolns used the same motor.

I don't suppose you have part #s for the Oldsmobile or Lincoln that would work? or the year and model of the olds?

I'm just trying to beat $322......... obviously....

Thanks.

That's only for the earlier units that do not use the screw down mechanism.

If it's not working anymore open it and look at what is wrong. It can possibly be fixed easily. Just an opinion.

I don't put my tops down very often, however when I do go to the infamous switch behind the driver's seat, prior to pushing it to release it from the "UP" position, I always say a prayer, first. Seems to help.
Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.
