Pull down motor

1985 ASC Convertible #226: My toneau cover and trunk lid now work as if new. We had Henry rebuild the green relay; we found a bad connection behind the glovebox; we replaced the pull down motor and attached micro switch using local salvage yards. Why consider a conversion when you can have it as good as original, maybe better. The GM part # for the pulldown motor is 20160580. Mine came from a '91 Cadillac. The same part # was on the ASC motor. I cannot read the part# on the black micro switch that mounts on the motor assembly. As you know, this assembly mounts horizonally with the micro switch up. The switch lever on the micro shuts off the motor when the tonneau latch, upon closing, pushes it down. Part of my problem was the mounting holes for the assembly were too low to allow full turn off of the switch. As a result, the motor was always drawing current in a half on position. This could be the cause of so many stripped gears as there would be constant stress in the motor. We elongated the holes a bit allowing the motor assembly to be raised slightly so the tonneau latch would fully depress the switch. It is critical this switch lever is released to the full on position when the tonneau is up (it also blocks current to the trunk lid) and depressed to the off when the tonneau has been drawn down. I am sure this motor and switch were used on other GM cars as well as some Lincolns. Good hunting and an end to your convertible top raising and storing problems.
