I got mine appraised this summer. It is a well kept original California car with presentable original paint(showing its age) and absolutely no rust. Fresh top and seats. They gave me a $8000 value.

I totally agree Sandy. But they also look at the market price. And the advertised market prices on our cars is not to our favor. Most sell cheap!

Value for insurance

Post by svo413 »

The way I look at it is, What is it going to take to replace my car? I don't want to shop around for a couple years to find a replacement deal. If your car is valued for $8K then insure it for $10K. Once you hit about $20K they will want a paid apraisal. It's up to you to update the value periodically. In addition, no sense in restoring a car for $20K and only insuring it for $8K.

I guess insurance here in Canada are not the same as in US. Here in Quebec province I'm insured with the most recognized collector car insurance company and THEY tell me who is their autorized appraiser and I had to do business with them. I can use another insurance company if I want but price is MUCH higher. But anyway $8K is about what I have in the car so I do not complain, but my Ferrari was undervalued and I'm not happy with this one.
