Sandy,

My trunk lid is steel. '86 Vert. I did check it with a coated magnet. The magnet does not stick on the windshield pillars.

YUP, But it's a Capri. The person that told me that, had (past-tense) worked at ascMcLaren.... on the Mustangs, and was NOT THERE when the Capris were being built, so :shrug
so....I do not know. My 2 "feel" like aluminum, but "feel" might be decieving... ? Lets see what shaolinfox30 has to say. His is a Mustang version.

It appears that shaolinfox30 cannot find his magnet ?? !

What kinda dealership? You or your family own ?
I was with Dodge for 27 years. 1968 thru 1995.
Small but profitable store. We pushed out about
25 to 33 or so, a month.

I (usually) liked it. Some of the cstomers took the enjoyment outta it, but they can't all come in, and lay down.

Dents Damage and Dings!

Post by capri50asc »

Guys, If you do not like to drive your cars or park them in parking lots. I understand. I have seen it all. Back in 1978 I had a 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 with 19,000 miles on it. It was red with the black interior and the black NASA car hood and the front spoiler. But this Mach 1 was very diffrent, It had a black vinyl top on the whole fastback of the roof and on the decklid. This car sharp. But like everything in life it was time to sell. So in late 1978 I sold my Mach 1. It drove off never to be seen again. But in 1983 I was droving my 1978 Chevy Camaro Z28, In the area of Redford Michigan just outside of Detroit. There it was, sitting in a Farmer Jack Food Mart. It was
TRASHED. Rusted out, the top was removed and it was in a wreck, because the front end was from a blue 71 Mustang Mach 1 ( I have pictures) I waited for the owner to come out, It was my car and I was sick over what had happened. The guy who owned it now was a flake and I saw that from talking to him. My Mustang was gone........... But I enjoy my three cars to the fullest now. Because I do not know what the future holds on just looking at them in the garage. I try to be as careful where I park and drive. But fire, storms, cars being stolen, etc, etc, My '73 Cougar was damaged in a gas station when I was pumping gas in the back of it . A man in his early 80's. cut his turn to close to the front of my Cougar and his 1995 Buick ripped off the bumper molding ( I had a extra)
He did about $4,000 worth of damage to the whole side of his car. I was lucky........But I keep on cruising........My 07 Dodge Charger was nailed by a baseball.............My brother hit one of my cars on the DRIVEWAY!...........I hit a raccoon with my '86 Capri RS and damage the spoiler (easy repair)..................and just last year in Oct 2010. I was traveling on 1-275 in Canton Michigan. A semi truck lost it's large mud flap from its trailer. It hit the facal and the rear door on my 2010 Ford Fusion. OH and I have a picture of this I hit a turkey in upper Michigan with my '05 Dodge Magnam The TURKEY was stuck in the grill! ( I will upload this picture soon) But I will NEVER stop cruising my cars..........
................................NEVER............................

Dodge Magnum has a crash with a turkey (turkey lost)

Post by capri50asc »

Guys, here's the picture. This is what a 30 lbs. can do to the front of Dodge Magnum. $2,100 in damage, a dead turkey, and all I was missing was mashed potatoes and gravy.

Enjoy,
Chris

I am so glad that the 20-40 turkeys that come around our house, and hang around all day don't have computers to see this!! They would have a heart attack!

I'm completely with you on this one, Chris. I've had people freak out on me because I actually carry stuff in the bed of my Lightning.

Its a truck, first, and then a hot rod. Before I got my 1st gen Lightning in '94, I was looking at Syclones, but I passed because I could'nt use it as a truck. Did'nt make sense to me.

I respect everybody"s decisions on how to use they're cars and I guess mine is based on the fact that I can fix whatever goes wrong with mine, but I can't enjoy'em if I can't use'em.

If I ever got the nerve up, to drive one of my cars....Your story & pics ended that !

My wife's 2001 Jeep Cherokee (the small original Cherokee) LIMITED 4X4
Wagon s 10 years old, with 64,000 miles. It sports a new OEM rear bumper due to SANDY backing it in to a parking meter's steal verticle pole. The bumper is new and the Silver-Grey paint matches.
Other than that, it's 100% all OEM. Flawless in, out & under, imcluding the leather interior. It has 1 problem that cannot be fixed. It has the seldom seen (for 2001) heated seats. The driver side burnt out, and it's a discontinued part & cannot be fixed. Passenger side works.

We are careful with it ~ but take it every where we go. I park far away in parking lots and do not shop at food markets with parking lots that are not level. (Run-away metal shopping carts on windy days can do $1,000 + in damage). The paint still shines, as I have taken super care of it.
27 factory options on it. I am careful with but not "nuts" like I am with all the others.
I am 100% sure - If I actually used any McLaren or the Caddy, for just 1 month, something terrible would happen to it. It would break my heart, So they are just "cruisers" on sunny nice days, and not parked or let out of my site.
Some people are thatway with dogs/cats, or obsessed with sports, or love to go to bars & drink, and / or bowling leagues or whatever. I have been car-crazy since age 3. My Mom told me that MY 1st spoken word was "MaMa and my 2nd spoken word was DaDa and my 3rd spoken word was Bow Wow (for dog) and my 4th spoken word was CAR!
At age 5 I was able to identify every car on the road, make AND model.
I just cannot help it. I really can't. I am CAR CRAZY!
I also love IMPERALS, an have owed 6 or 7 of them & sold them (new) at a local I.C.P. dealership. My Father always bough Imperials (every 3rd year we got a new one). 1957, 1960, 1963, 1966, 1969, 1972, 1975, 1978, and 1981. He died in 1985. From 1969 onward , I sold them to him. Cars were my advocation and my vocation. I just can't help it.
They are like art to me. I am passionate about keeping them purr-fect.
I really cannot help it. I went to great schools, Temple University in Phila., Pa and to American University in Wash. D.C. I went to please my parents ! I graduated American University, and handed my foks my deploma.....and went to sell cars ! That lasted only 27 years !
I just can't help it. Okay ?

Sounds real nice!!! I'd LOVE to have that - but, now, I am too old for it all. Yes - the economy could be better; but I was out & ABOUT, PRE-
Christmas, and I saw one heck of alot of spending.

When we hear less "bad News" from TV / Radio & internet, perhaps it will imptove. Cars, sadly - will be last to get better, as they are high ticket items.

That turkey remind me of a story that happened to me a while ago. I had a 69 GT500. (If you have a 1997 Snap-on calendar it apear in the august page.) I was driving it to my friend heated garage about 50 miles from home for the winter storage. Halfway there I came across a Partridge that decided to land in my grille. I was going about 60 mph. My Shelby grille was badly damaged also the beauty trim ring in it and the fiberglass headlight pot was broken. I was FURIOUS. Why it didn't head up for the 18 wheeler that was following me? Anyway when I parked the car I removed all the damaged parts from the car and fixed them during long winter and in springtime it was ready to go again. A car is a car and I like to enjoy it.
