86 coupe's - 114 or 115 total

Post by n20capri »

Back in the day it was always 115 - lately I've been seeing everyone say 114...which is it?

This is a break down that lists 114

http://www.ascmclaren.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=820

And this one is really confusing because sandy titled it how the 115 86 coupes were built but mike adds info and says 114.

I'm thinking that there were 114.

They are both conflicting...I was also under the impression there were only 18 pop up sunroof cars (mine is one) but the one thread says 20.

One thread shows 9 ttop cars - the other 8! lol There are other discrepancies too....guess we'll never really know.

I'd like to see a T-Top car though!

I have a 'T'Top car. It's a 1980 Corvette L-82. Not for sale -------yet.

Same as the '86 ASC vert.

But they may be soon. Knee, hip and leg are making it hard to get in and out of the vehicles.

I would love to - but a bit too much money for me...plus probably more work than I can handle at the moment! lol

Just to add to the confusion. I saw on ascmclaren.com a breakdown of the 1986 Coupe production by Color and Stripe color. The total of all the full packaged coupes come to 115.

From the Great One:
Regarding the 114 -vs- the 115. ascMcLaren records show 114 shipped. However, one unit was picked up by the buyer at ascMcLaren directly, because of reasons I am not at liberty to expose. The REAL total was 115. ascMcLarens published total is 114. Take your pick! 115 were made.

Great, we may never know about the 115th. I sure hope it's written down or that he told somebody.

Sandys signature even says 1 of 114 coupes... I would say we will never know.

That would be really neat to find out the story behind that mystery one. Hopefully someone knows something about it.

OK. So I keep every email ever sent to me since like before the turn of the century.

So Sandy would drop a few tidbits on me here or there over the years and some things he was a wee bit scared to let out "publicly". I dunno why, maybe he thought he would get quizzed about things too closely. I'm guessing he never really wanted to piss off anyone who was close to these cars back in the day so he wouldn't burn any bridges.

On a whim, I did a search of my email for "sandy 114". It ground away for like 10 minutes. A lone email surfaced.

Dated 7/14/2008:
Sandy wrote:Actually they made 115. One (1) unit was stolen while still in the possession of ascMcLaren & was totalled beyond belief, so at different times, AND for no real reason, I have flipped back & forth from 115 to 114 to 115 to 114 as THE # made for Full Packaged 1986 asc McLaren COUPES !
I guess the "one was picked up at asc" was a little deception of his. He did have his quirks.

I miss his quirks

I think he thought someone was going to sue Him if he said the wrong thing.
