moldings question / clarification please?

Post by jcaci88 »

Hi guys,

I am new so if this question has come up already please bare with me.

Do I am looking to replace some of the moldings on my 88 and was curious on which ones I can and CAN NOT get from aftermarket companies like

Late model restoration, mustangs unlimited, american muscle, etc.. not sure what others are good?

I called up late model today and the guy informed me that I dont have to buy them through ascmclaren.com but I have to let him know the month and year to make sure i get the correct part.

I see that some of ascmclaren.com prices are about the same but some are lil higher.

Which parts can i get from these companies and which do i absolutely have to get from him? I am getting conflicting stories if the Weatherstripping Kit - Convertible (1987 All) A-Pillar Post Weatherstripping Kit and Convertible Top Side Rail Weatherstriping would actually also fit the 88 mclaren.

Please give me some input if you dont mind.

I dont want to call Henry every 5 minutes to ask and order if i dont have to.

Thanks Guys!

Are you looking for body moldings or weather striping?

The body moldings are the same. ASC added the front and rear piece over the stock.

The weather stripping is another story.

Dew wipes are the same
Bottom and rear of doors are the same
Top seals and A-pillar seals are going to be different

Moldings

The door and fender moldings are the same as the 88 LX. While the front nose/ bumper is from the GT, the side moldings are different and are not supposed to match. I don't know why except the cars were probably built on the LX base model.

The rubber weather strip at the rear of the door glass is standard Ford. Any thing touching the roof is ASC special.

Correct. They are an LX Mustang with the front GT nose slapped on.

Moldings

Funny, I knew there were little items like this but never really noticed them. That is until I had the car up on the lift for detailing. From that view the are more noticeable.

I also happened to notice two of the drive shaft bolts were about to fall out. Not good for a 20,000 car.

If you need original moldings send me a PM, I have a bunch of them and the plastic studs are still attached. The aftermarket have double sided tape.
