'85 Coupe question

Post by lightning95sc »

I've tried looking in the resource section, to no avail. To anybody's knowledge, were there any '85's with T-tops?

http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/4101359101.html

The guy wants $6500 or best offer. I'm having a difficult time getting add'l pics or other info from him. I asked about original color and buck tag....no answer.

I think a few at the tail end of the run.

All 85s were supposed to be "spec" cars. Solid roof, no power locks, no cruise, manual transmission, etc.

But some 85 coupes did not come that way. I know that for the GPIVs Ford had to seriously scramble to grab all the cars it promised to asc for the Grand Prix (cancelled dealer orders, used silver cars, etc). So their ability to supply asc with what was ordered was far from perfect.

Unfortunately, the story goes that an asc employee tossed all the 85 records so we have no way to know if asc ordered the cars that way or not.

The car you posted has me a little suspicious. The chrome trim on the quarter window is VERY odd.

I don't recall any 85s with t tops. Go look at the car and see if it has a Mclaren buck tag and gray piping on the seats.

I've seen an '85 sunroof car, but never T-tops. I noticed the chrome trim, too.

The guy called me today and he's VERY anxious to get rid of the car, maybe a little too anxious....he's willing to bring the car to me to look at....NEVER had that happen before, at least not without some expectation of a deal, which I haven't given this guy.

Anyway, I'll look at it this afternoon and let you guys know what I find. I'm particularly interested to know if it has both bucktags.

The chrome trim on the quarter window is VERY odd.

Or it is the black ASC trim with the paint worn off. the black tint looks flush not sunk in. my two cents

I have never seen the trim "worn off" so perfectly. It fades, gets scratched, etc...

It looks like a replacement was done.

I ended up not looking at it yesterday, had to work a double. The guy has called me twice today ranting about how the car is worth 65...actually more, but he just wants out of the car because, really, he never wanted the car.
Those are his words paraphrased as I heard them in the 2nd msg he left.

I'm very hesitant at this point to even look at the car, this guy is way too anxious and pushy to have "other fish on the hook", so to speak. Again, his words. And he keeps reiterating he'll bring the car TO ME.
My Dad always told me, "If it quacks like a duck and farts like a swan, most likely you're the pigeon"!

Did you verify the vin was what you sent me?

I think on T-Roof cars they may have left the quarter window blackouts off because it interfered with the T-Roof.

Anyone have a T-Roof car with the quarter blackouts?

I seem to remember the T-Top cars being without the quarter window blackouts as well. I think it would interfer with the rubber seal at the back of the door window since there is no window frame.
