I just checked my 2/89 buid date 89 LX vert and it uses the 2 piece design. I checked my early build 88 McLaren and it seems to use the 1 piece design as pictured on Ebay. It's really hard to see it with the car up on the lift but I don't see the outer seam.
My guess is the ASC used the updated design from the Ford Parts bin whne the doors were converted. Where the LX was built from assembly line inventory.
It's very likley both parts interchange. I always thought the 1 piece design was started in 1990.
