Info on mt 86 Capri Convt

Post by 86MclarenCapri »

When I bought my 88 McLaren back in '06, (I was lucky that) it came with a great report from Sandy which was very helpful. I didn't get anything with my 86 and since it was a donated car to a charity, they won't let me contact the previous owner. Did the detailed reports get passed on to someone else on this forum?

Info

I don't recall Sandy generating any reports. Sandy usually passed on build information but there was not much car specific info.

You can request the Eminger Report and the Marti report fron Kevin Marti. Unfortunately, both of these reflex the car as built by Ford and not ASC.

Dan, Most states can tell you who owned the vehicle if you send them the VIN. It's a public record.

Thanks for the info--I got a Marti report for my 67, which was very informative, but the ones I have seen (that ASC owners have posted) don't give much info on the cars.

I guess 'report' might not have been the correct term. It was more like a write-up about my car. It looked like he had factory info on all of the cars and he provided the build number of my 88. Or, at least, he told me that the plaque that was on the dash was wrong.

I would really like to know the build number but I guess the Marti report could tell me if the seats are correct. I'll give that a try..

I bought the car from a charity so it was donated. It was last registered in 99, so I have the feeling that the owner passed away and the estate donated the car. That was hinted to me by the reps from the charity.

Build

The Marti report or Eminger report will not show the build number. These reports only represent the car as it left Ford.

ASC build number was assigned after the conversion was completed.

You can try checking the vin database on this site. If Sandy had a list of build numbers, I do not believe he made it public. Some cars were tracked because they were special or low volume. I try to keep a database of the cars I find.

Yeah, I had to add mine to the database. It's a silver 86 convt with grey interior, supposedly 1 of 12 with that combo.

You cannot get owner info from the DMV. Federal DPPA, and similar state laws, prohibit it.

I stand corrected. It's been that long (1994) since I've even tried to get any information on a vehicles past.
