all thumbs radio

Post by Denbob55 »

Not to beat this to death, but the more I ask you guys about what radio the more information you all give that all points towards a radio none of us can afford or doesn't exist. So I have an 86 ASC McL capri vert. I'm 70 and want to tool down the road listing over the road noise to some talk radio about how the commies are getting their ass kicked by President Trump, but also some ocasional tunes. Let me ask this first, do any of you have an easy-to-install-without-pulling-the-dash radio where I don't give a damn about cassett, CD, blue teeth, her hight tech stuff, just reception and wattage to power speakers loud enough to hear over my screaming bad-ass engine and exhaust? If no one has that, then what do you recommend I can buy and easily install?

If you're not interested in originality, any stereo shop can install an aftermarket CD player for less than $200.

Radio

ASC put their own radios in place of the factory Ford units. None really require pulling the dash. Not sure where you got that idea. Some can be a little tight.

The simplest radio might be to go with the original Ford unit. I would have it reworked with modern electronics. First see what you have for a hole to fit it in. DIN or 2 post. 86 should be an electronic am/fm cassette. There are a couple of choices for reworking or repairing them. Todd Lane on FaceBook on probably hook you up with the right Ford one.

Not always. The car mentioned had a Premium Sound radio from Ford. They were rare, but they exist.

Factory radios are WAY harder to install than the aftermarket units.
