Added a GP IV to the collection today!!

Well I found a GP IV in the paper today. Here's the ad:

1985 Mercury Capri
Description — $1,200, MERCURY CAPRI 85 5.0 HO,5-spd,T-tops,needs work.$1200 765339-4159

I called and the owner stated it was a GPIV car... So I went and looked at it and had to buy it.

Man, that's NICE !! Nice going!! What State was it in ?? Looks like mid-west. What work does it need? Certainly not bodywork !

Yes.. it's an Indiana car.. needs a hatch and some brake work... the interior is perfect and driveline is in great shape. It has some chopped up dual exhaust..with the trans crossmember turned upside down... This car will get some much needed attention.

in darn near Concours condition. But, alas, I have no room !

roof?
cruise?
power locks?
5 speed?
factory radio?

must have details at once!

after looking at the vin # photo i see i have this one documented already

i have t-tops, 5-speed, & AC listed
is this correct?

also is there power locks, cruise control & do you know what the factory radio was/is?

That is an amazing find and quite a bargain. From your post, it appears that you didn't know that it was a GP IV before you called. Is that right?

Did you get any details from the previous owner about the car's history?

i know the car started out in michigan. the 1st or 2nd owner was located in Canton, MI

j... car has an old school aftermarket cassette player.. I will get more details when the car gets to my house. I am towing it home Friday. It is a 5-spd, T-top, with cold ass A/C.. BRRRR.... previous owner bought it 7 years ago from a car lot in Terre Haute, IN, for $4K. It had 90K miles on it at the time. He drove it for 4 years and then parked it. It is now sitting at 140K miles.

I had no clue it was a GPIV car. I called and asked the color, the wife stated it was white with some red graphics. I asked what do the graphics look like? She stated " It says Mercury MotorSports, and was some sort of Pace Car in Detroit." At that time I nearly peeeed myself...

NICE FIND I LOVE THAT STUFF! I got a good find this weekend i had too mention two cars a 89 gt mustang 5-speed and a 66 mustang coupe 289 auto and about 3 truck loads of parts and some nos stuff i usally do not mess with parts loads but this deal was one like the one you found could not pass it up! Cool machine are you going to fix it up?

Thanks All.... I plan on weekend driving it until snow flies, then it is off to dry storage until my Mclarens get finished...
