My 89 ascMcLaren vert -- RHD Down Under

Long overdue and not the best photos -- but here is my 89 Vert . I have owned this car from NEW -- first registered to me in Australia in 1992 with 200 km on the clock (it was the importers "show car" for a while) - purchased on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia and registered across the border in New South Wales and shipped to me in Sydney (about 800 km south). Became a regular drive for a few years but now a warm weather top-down occassional drive (9-10 months per year).. so now has just 75,000 km on it and needs some TLC in the top/pull-down mechanism, but otherwise runs fine

(note the damage on the front ascMcLaren panel -:( -- what is this part to replace ?? I don;t know how to describe it) Hank ???

I think there was a thread long ago on this, but I can;t find it...

My switch to release/tighten the screw-down (?) for the vert top to the tonneau cover is not operative .. is this called the "pull-down" ?? Is it likely the switch mechanism on the panel OR the actual motor action on the screw-down on the cover ? This is not used in cars here in Australia and one auto-electrician gave up on me already - but he just be useless

has new (well, rebuilt pull down motors. Contact him.)

How to avoid it happening again....NEVER but NEVER hold the switch that pulls it down onto the tonneau cover all the way. ALWAYS leave enough room under the material around the back (under the big section of window) to roll a pencil under. That way, when it freezes, you can REVERSE the motor which will free it up. It's darn near impossible to get that rear center bolt out, w/OUT destroying the leatherette cover applique. I suggest getting a FLEXABLE shaft screw driver!

I love it! Hey few things. Was the window molding always black or same color as the rest of the car? Also was the Pony emblem something they did to export models or something added on from you or the dealer?

Sandy is this the same motor as the Caddilac trunk motor or something else being referred too?

For the RHD's : Only 1989 to my knowledge & I think 5 in Australia ( I believe 3 blue and 2 white) and a handful in New Zealand (Paris Blue ones if I recall inNZ)

On the decals - yes it has 25th Anniversary PONY decals on the sides and interior .. not 25th anniv asc (which I gather was the 1990 model)

Oh.. window moulding always black -- but probably was changed on conversion - as Australia design regs are strict on convertibles and windscreens ... the others I have seen in Australia are all the same as mine in this regard (but interestingly, some I saw don;t have the 25th anniv decal -- like other blue one in Melbourne at the moment)

I'll see if I can get soem better pics to post later

Thanx for the tip on the switch .. yeah it isn;t crapped out completely JUST 98% of the time -:( VERY occassionally it will still work... but now I just don;t put the top up all the way .. even in occassional rain I just sit it down on the tonneau cover and put up with a little water - but VERY RARE

I do remember something about the cadillac pull-down motor .. will keep digging -- just wish I knew whether it was the switch or the motor ..

Heres another Australian Mclaren owned by my father in Sydney.
Saw a blue ASC in Double Bay about 8 years ago and left a mustang club magazine on it.Yours by any chance?
Seen three here in the flesh.Other was a white one owned by a girl from the Mosman area.

Very nice, I guess they didnt come with the tail lamp covers we have. Also those are nice rims what kind are they? Exhause tips are different and the windshield molding isnt monochromatic.

I assume the tailamp covers were changed to comply with our road laws.
The windshield posts were painted by the dealer who we bought the car from because he thought it looked better.Car was purchased with 873 km on it.
Original asc wheels were removed (whereabouts unknown

)and they had horrible mags on it which one cracked so they were replaced by these.The new ones are ROH about 4 years old.
Second lot of exhaust tips on the car.
