Any thoughts on this Capri?

Post by negusm »

Sandy (and anyone else), your thoughts on this Capri:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 34785&rd=1

This is an interesting car....and its going to open up that can of worms again about 1985 GS/RS/5.0, etc.

This car has all the markings of a GS...
Chrome front Grill
Chrome door handles.
Chrome trim around the windows, etc.
GS front nose.
GS seats and interior.

However, it most certainly has a VIN for a 5.0..."M".

It is a very early car. 1530th built. Mine was 7872 and was scheduled to be built on Jan 15 1985....so that would make this one somewhere around October 1984?

The other interesting thing is that the seller says it was originally a light beige exterior color....that color was ONLY a GS color too.

Check your facts book(s), Mike. Nobody ever said that someone could NOT order a GS with a V-8. I checked mine, and it is listed! On your own site you printed the salesman's pocket guide and the 5.0L is listed in there (1985/6) as an option on a GS.
This car has many things wrong, to be true to the breed.
Headlight buckets are black (or navy) and on a GS should be chrome,
Late model Mustang GT wheels,
Mustang Hatch & Spoiler,
Dash Fascia changed to that of a Mustang GT or Capri RS.

Also very unusual are the Power Door Locks on a base model. I have never seen P/D/L on a base model before! Not saying you could not get them, just saying I personally have never seen them on a base model. MOST RS(s) I've seen don't even have them !!
Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

1990 Final Car prior to the 12 Silver Anny Editions
1990 Silver Pearl Anny Edition
1986 Coupe Full Pkg #109 of 114.

Yes, I thought the same thing on the GS and 5.0 option after I posted it.

The 5.0 was only offered on the GS with an automatic?

The pocket guide says the 5.0 was not available with the GS Manual.

That is correct, and in later years (1985/1986) the RS got the 4-Speed Automatic, while the GS made do with the 3-speed automatic.
