How many people have had to replace the Valve Cover gaskets?

Post by mandra »

All of my 5.0's have needed replacement of the Valve cover gaskets. The one I am doing tomorrow is on my 85 ASC Vert. 18,895 miles and the VC is leaking like mad. Darn thing even has the original wires on it and they are fine. Is it just me?

Oh well had to vent these things make me crazy. Last time I broke one of the wire looms :x

Are you using cork gaskets? Try the fel-pro rubbeized type and do not feal bad this is a common 302 issue!

So funny you should mention this. My car is in the shop right now getting this done. My motor was a nrw crate motor from previous owner too. There is no way I even put 1,000 miles on my car and I dont think he put much more on it either. My mechanic said it was fastened down to hard so it must have been from the factory. It was extremely clean under there too proving low to no use.

Yeah I've replaced mine...AND I've replaced my dads...AND I replaced the ones on my 79 5.0 notch...it seems like stock 5.0 valve cover gaskets always leak...

Thanks for the company. Hate to think I'm alone in the issues I come across. Getting that stock gasket off can be a bit of a pain! :)

there is only one gasket to use IMO...that is the rubber gaskets with a steel inner. These are great. You cannot over tighten the gaskets, which is what a lot of people do wrong. These gaskets are not cheap but probably worth it..I like them.
