Sandy, you say in 1986, the last Capri was built on Sept 7.

With Mustang production at 224,410 for the same year it still doesn't seem correct that we don't see any 700k cuns for 86 Capris.

Mustang Production, as I stated was 121,142 ! Capri was 18,654. Total = 139,796. Capri took 13.34% of the total. The percent I stated earlier today was incorrect. It IS 13.34% of the total. This from BOTH Ford AND Automtive News.

Capris were produced until the 7th of September. Mustangs went until the Wednesday BEFORE Thanksgiving of 1986. (From Automotive News).
So Mustangs went for about 7 weeks longer, after the last Capri, which was Canyon Red and went to Canada.

This is for 1986 MODEL run, Not Calander year..and not 1985 Model run.

That link you sent me Mike has a guy over there with a VIN higher thanthe # made by 1,745 units. I dunno....I have letter from Mercury Div of Ford as well as 2nd letter FROM Ford, both with the 18,654 production # for the 1986 Capri.

I have heard from others explain VINs the same as you explain it. It just doesn't seem to make sense to me. Maybe when MArti has the complete vin records for 79-93, we can get some info.

Not 100% positive, but I was told that XP code on the paint was code to DELETE the lower charcoal rockers and lower bumper fascias on ascMcLarens.

I heard it was a trim code. There was ONE guy at FEP with a car with that XP code...his car was not an asc....maybe his rocker trim blackout was deleted too.

Heated Backs = Electric Rear Window Defroster and I thought that YOU said that you HAD the Radar Unit ?? !! !!

Sorry I stated that I never knew if the radar detector was there because it looks like it never was. That why I want'd to know if it was a option or if they all just came with it. This post is getting so long and going in so many directions it's hard to keep it all straight. I Thank You guys for are your help and even though I am missing the asc body tag and sticker on the door I beleive I have enough info to conclude that my car is a real asc McLaren.

missing. Although,I don't think someone would of gone
through the trouble of finding all the correct parts that your
car does have. Also,the buck tag does NOT say CRS which is
a good thing right ?
But, surely you will be question on it's authenticity by the true ASC
McLaren enthusiast.

in 1985 the radar detector was a stock thingyou car should have one it was only an option in 86 i think sandy got a bit mixed up

I have paperwork indicating that the radar unit was strandard equipment & also paperwork indicating that it was optional ! The 1985 brochure & other paperwork shows that it was to be standard, HOWEVER, there it is on the dealer order sheet with a square to check off IF you wanted it at (I think) $238.00 optional equipment ~

I have seen way way too many 1985s without it to BELIEVE that it was standard !

XP is the paint code for the Charcoal paint that was on trim & the lower portion of the factory 5.0 cars in 85/6

Did ASC use a particular model for the conversions like the RS or GS? I see the FI/auto was only available with one model in 85 but it seemed the stick was only available with the other model. Or was ASC it own basic trim code pre-conversion?

ASC had a special build from Ford just for them.

The Midnight Blue was not available in the RS model so they had to have a special build to get the Midnight Blue, 5.0L and Sport Seats. The cars did not get the "CRS" on the buck tag so I guess you could say they were GS based cars with upgrades.

Is there a list on this site of what exactly ASC did to the cars? I know bits and pieces have been covered. I was thinking of starting a list of all the conversion details for each model. I run into more details everytime I work on the car.

I have the list you are speaking of. However, It's just too long to type here.
A quickiee follows.
Start with GS V-8, but it gets the 4-Speed with overdrive or the 5-Speed Manual. (Neither available on a "normal" GS ~)
Blackout treatment on window frames (doors) and around front/rear windows
Unique exhaust system & muifflers (from the RS)
Being a GS it got the GS front fascia, which would be cut to install the McLaren air dam and McLaren-Installed Hella Foggies.
Since a GS; there was no side F/R charcoal panel, yet a delete code was on the build sheet. This MIGHT indicate that at SOME time SOME RS models MIGHT have been used.
Black-out exterior key holes & Hatch key hole.
Black-Out wiper arms and related hardware.
Delete all GS emblems
Install RS Seating with Dk. grey piping rather than red-orange piping.
(Here goes Mike's hiar on back of his neck, now.....)
Utilize flat black antenna & base & interior door panel switch gear for Pwr. Windows & if so equipped, Pwr. Door Locks and well as finishing plates surrounding the switches.
Utilize RS Steering wheel


Now, that said.....
You should see the PROPOSSED sheet showing the items for a McLaren Coupe that went to the cutting room floor.

Perhaps Fredzilla can locste that! I put it here, a long time ago. Mike, HELP !
Oh, and yes, the Midnight Blue Metallic was a
GS ONLY exterior paint color.

Actually, if ya think about it, the ascMcLaren (convert also) were really their own build, and NOT a GS nor a RS. The Verts even have a sticker on the driver's door jamb stating INCOMPLETE VEHICLE (This is 99% on the 1MH) beginning VINS, much much moreso than on the 1ME beginning VINS.

When I was working on the convert, I noticed the auto shifter bezel had to be modified to fit between the sides of the console. The older models were metal but these are plastic, you could see where they ran them thru a band saw and never cleaned then up. With the gap on the sides now, they thew in a piece of die cut carpet insulation to fill the gap.

Little things like this might be useful to the guy who is trying to jam the whole piece in a car he is resurecting. Can't wait to see the list.
