The "Bonnet" {cockpit cover} took 1 month to arrive. It arrived just yesterday, at 5 PM Fed EX. I opened it in the living room. It looks very nice, and they offer it in many exterior paint color of our McLarens !! I have been pre-occupied and have not had a chance to take it down to the garage & pull out the victim and lower his top and try it on. Maybe tomorrow or Saturday. I will post about it.
At the front, there are two straps that you place under the wipers arms, at the side there is an elastic loop (good quality) to slip over the side view mirrors (one on each side, and at the rear there are two long (like 12 inches) heavy gauge webbed strips that you loop into a knot and can drop into the trunk (opening closest to trunk hinges ) and close the trunk on, and then the cannot be pulled out. The material is a bit thinner than I would have liked.
I would have like the material to be thicker. say like the thickness of a winter sweat shirt. It's not. It's more like the thickness of a nylon wind breaker!

My purpose in getting it. There is a certain element of young people - say ages 15 to 22 who are devils. When they see an unattended convertible, top down, and when they are with others (they never do crap when alone) to be smart @$$e$ they toss whatever is in their hands into an open convertible. Could be an empty soda can, or one not too enpty
or God knows what ~! The worst would be a lit cigarette   now with this nylon wind breaker thickness, that cigarette is gonna burn thru, and continue burning underneath ! Not good.

It was $100 - better than nothing, that is for sure. I never leave my tops down too long, because of the fade factor. They are only down if I am driving it. If I stop at home and am going to go out in a bit, she goes into the garage, so that said, if out and I park it top down I am coming back real soon. It might be at a Kwick Check or a 7-11, but absolutely never a regular supermarket, home depot or similiar type retail outlet. But I figured for $100 it could not hurt.
It comes in
Black; Hot Yellow; Azura Blue; ascMcLaren Red; Sterling Silver; Atlantic Blue; or Gunmetal colors. They are not 100% exact to our cars but they are 90% (or more) close to our colors. Damn close.

Product is called "Interior Cover" for 1987 - 1993 Ford Mustang Convertible
They don't know squat about an ascMcLaren, but I am sure it will fit.
I will let you know ABOUT the fit no latter than this coming Sunday.

Thanks Sandy - that's exactly what I need one for.

Also, do you know if it's possible to change the power locking mechanism to te earlier Capri style manual latch?

Okay, it's 4PM in Jersey and I just put down the top (thanks for working big fat screw :D and put on the cover. It's easy to do, but do it carefully, do not rush. It's a perfect fit !! !! !! :D :D (Even though, remember, I ordered for a 1993 Mustang LX Convertible - it fits custom-made like.

A cigarette will burn thru it in 5 seconds! Other forms of trash will not enter the interior. It will prevent (or slow down) fading factor. It will definately keep out bird poop ! We live across from a big huge county park about 11 acres ! Many many many flying poop machines all over & lots of the de luxe model called pigeons ! So, it's really good for that.
3 thick straps drop down into trunk lid, part closest to back edge of tonneau. Two elastic loops fit around door handle and two more around dual exterior mirrors that attach with velcro straps. 3 cloth straps go under the w'shield wipers. I order Sterling Silver to match my paint color.
I may buy another in Azura Blue, for ya kno who....

Sandy, glad it all worked out. What material would you say it is? Is it pretty water tight? Could you take pictures the next time around so we can all see? Do they also have tops that match the interior colors? I hate to buy a black cover that would cook my butt the second I goto sit in the car. Also can imagine all the dirt it shows. Tan would be really nice imo and I can swap it from one car to the other if I like since they are both tan interiors. Thanks.

What are the differences between the Capri and Mustang's top design? Visually I would have thought that they were identical aside of a different button by the seatbelt post and pulldown motors which are still both electric. :shrug

the material I was a little disappointed with ~ it is a satin silk-like material, similar to a lightweight wind breaker. It is not lined, and a single side.

It will keep out bird poop, which was MY goal. As said, a lit cigarette will burn right through it in seconds. It fits excellent. Custom-made look. I can't post pics. Don't have ability to do so. It's worth the $100. bucks, for bird poops, and dust & pollen and leaves in the Autumn.

Top design of 1984-1988 was the same. 1989/1990 had a different stitch pattern, colors were added & taken away almost each year.

Capri was Navy or Tan

87 & 88 'Stang was the two above, + Black,

89 added Dark Chocolate Brown and Burgundy

90 was supposed to add light grey (silver) but that did not happen, but 1990 did add white, which was vinyl, not cloth....

So a '90 ASC with a white vinyl top would be uber rare probably the rarest of all tops? I just counted only 15 made with the white vinyl tops, and just imagine that is for all years from 84-90! Chocolate had 21 made in 89.

Top screw mechanism

I was told that the mechanism is the same one used in the Cadillac trunks automatic close feature. Don't know that for sure but it does work exactly the same way!

White was indeed the rarest color top, 1990 only
There were also some super rare (as in 1 made!) paint colors in 1990.
Dark Chocolate of 1989 was the 2nd rarest, usually topping a Royal Gold car with Sand Beige interior ~

I have no clue, but she stopped writing to me (my e-mail) account about the same time. I don't think I said / did anything wrong. I miss her e-mails.

I will e-mail her right now - see if I get a reply...... ???
