Newbie but olbie
I will save the tires for you definately. I am in the collecting phase right now both advice and parts . I am shipping car to St louis on memorial day to begin restoration- my nieces husband runs a garage with real mechanics and body guys. so be patient I do what i say i do . It has been a journey geetting to retirement and fixing this car.
They do street rods and resto rods for living so they are real interested in this car cause it is different and a challenge . So they will like that they are doing something unique and that there is only a few of them left. Preserving history is important to them and is neat cars. They are excited to work on this car .

Regarding the trans - did some research on the topic plus speaking to several people who are Fox-body fanatics, personally I went with fully synthetic Redline MTL fluid in the original Ford 'world-class' T-5 trans. Runs about $13 a quart. It dramatically improved shift quality plus all of the other typical benefits of synthetic lubricants (extended drain intervals, modest fuel economy gains, etc.). Royal Purple lubricants were also frequently mentioned as one you can't go wrong with. You'll surely get conflicting opinions on what's ultimately best to use but if in doubt you certainly can't go wrong with any good quality of ATF as that technically is the factory fill. May still give Mobil-1 ATF a try down the road a ways as I've always had excellent results with their products as well. I don't mind using my own vehicles as somewhat of a 'guinea-pig' for experimentation as to what works best, at least for my needs. Not like I have a 100-point show car here. If it were an 80-85 pointer I'd be thrilled...
'TFS2121' is correct on the capacity. Think I used about 2.8 quarts... there's a drain and a fill plug both found on the right side of the transmission as viewed from beneath looking forward. Best to drain it while warm to remove as many contaminants as possible. When refilling, just add until it oozes out the fill port and you're done. The old stuff that came out was definitely ATF... but ancient, dirty-reddish brown ATF. It had definitely outlived its usefullness.
P.S. Sorry to be so long-winded at times but this is the kinda stuff that gets me outta bed in the morning and keeps me awake many a late night. Modest background in marketing and journalism makes it even worse. It's an affliction called 'Gearhead-itis'. No known cure!

I have Firestone Firehawk single direction tires on my 86. At first I didn't like them becaus they're Firestone and I've had problems with Firestones in the past. They seem to be a good tire with almost no discernible road noise. But, after the car sits for a month the tires are a little 'lumpy' feeling from the flat spots.
Tires have gone out of sight on price. I put 4 Goodyear Eagle GTII's on my '80 Vette about 5 years ago. Toatal cost was $375.00 and got a $25.00 rebate (Twice. I don't know why either). Glad the car's not exposed to the sun very often. The price now is way, way over that.
My F150 came with Hankook tires from S. Korea. They are the quietest tires I've ever had. With the windows up, and the A/C on low at 70 MPH there's nothing but silence until you turn the radio on. Eerie!!

I just want to make sure they are the P225/50x15 TA tires like the coupes are supposed to have. Did the verts get the same tires?
But I will buy them as soon as they are available. When you say they are NOS and not any good....they are new but really old?

If he has Goodyear tires on the car, they are not original. T/A's are from BF Goodrich. From what I can make out on the literature, 'verts had T/A's, but it looks like a different size - 215/60 maybe.

If they are 215/60, then they need to go to a vert owner.

They must be original or else it is odd
They are Good years It would be very odd if they were not original . I bought the car with less than 1000 miles on it from Jeffords motors, a Porsche dealer in Miwaukee. Car I believe was bought from Boucher Land M in West Alis Wisconsin. I will get size Weds. I get home then from Texas.
I paid $10200 for it.

Got to car this is tire and size
Finally got home after 1543 miles of driving. The tires on my car are Goodyear eagles VR60 P225 60VR15 and they were on the car when I bought the car.
Since s car had less thanm 100 miles I have no reason to believe they are not NOS.

Re: Got to car this is tire and size
If they were on the car, they are not NOS, they are "NTO" or "New Take Offs".beakyboy wrote:Finally got home after 1543 miles of driving. The tires on my car are Goodyear eagles VR60 P225 60VR15 and they were on the car when I bought the car.

Regardless, they will should be desirable to a vert owner. So I will let someone else step up. They are the wrong size for my car.

Didn't know those came on the Grand Prix cars. Is that the normal 85-86 Gatorbacks?plumkrazy wrote:What about Somebody with a Silver Grand Prix Caprinegusm wrote:Regardless, they will should be desirable to a vert owner. So I will let someone else step up. They are the wrong size for my car.

Yes, that's the normal 85-86 Gatorback.
They still wouldn't be correct on a vert would they? I thought they had BFG T/A's too.
Did asc change to Goodyear's in 86 and only used BFGs in 84 & 85?
I don't think I've ever seen any promo literature for 86.
