Now, having said all that, I can't imagine that the Mustang screw type motor units were custom pieces just for asc. I would think they would be fairly common parts used on other cars like the GM ones in the Capris.
Can or has anyone cross referenced the Mustang unit's part number to ID what it's volume vehicle application was? While either unit can be purchased from Henry for over $300, the Mustang piece should be available for much less elsewhere just like the Capri/Caddy/Olds/etc one is. We just need to determine what to be looking for and where.
Any thoughts guys?
Capri/Mustang Pull Down Motor
Yeah ive look all over the junkyards for the motors to find another screw type, no luck. The screw that holds the bow down is not a standarda standard threading, and what grabs it is not a standard nut. I believe that the motor came from a gm headlight setup, many of the gm motors look identical and have the same kind of mounting. I have part of the motor, the back side that actually contains the motor and brushes, and the part that the nut attaches to using to allen head screws. From the pics ive seen, the nut part only has one flange that actually contacts the screw, its not threaded like the screw itself, it just runs around the outside of the screw to pull it down. Seeing this I do not believe it would be hard to have one machined, if I could get a better look at the piece I could probably have one replicated. This is also why I believe that the part is modded and not an off the shelf item, most people seem to use motors of this style as a rotary actuator to drive gears, pulleys, etc, not as a type of pull down.
The guy I bought the car from wont return my calls, he was supposed to have a box of parts for me to come get, I was hoping the rest of this motor was in there with them. Not exactly sure what happened, he just stopped answering. Hopefully I will be able to re-establish contact with him and pick up the box of miscellaneous stuff that will hopefully contain enough to get a motor going.

There are 3 for sale on Ebay. One guy states he just replaced the pull down motor. Might want to contact him for info.
