Where are the nine now?
If I could figure out how to get the PDF on here I would post it for all to see.
So I will transcribe part of it.

BINGO ! YOU DO !
Ian,of the 245 made for 1986(YES, yours is a 1986, the final year for the Mercury Capri version) a mere 9 (NINE) were factory equipped with a3.8Litre V-6 engine!! YOU HAVE ONE! (and) it's FACTORY ORIGINAL!!
Your car was #14,186 1986 Mercury Capri built and the 185th to be customised by ASC into what you have. It's a very rare car!
I have located just 2 others, both in the USA, for a total of 3 of the 9. Yours is the only 3.8Litre V-6 outside the usa.
ASC introduced the asc/McLaren 3.8 SC 2-Seat Roadster. This is what you have.

Ian,
I'm guessing here, so correct me if I guessed wrong -
Are you looking at the last line of 4-barrel Mike's post containing pics of your car, where it says "1985 5.0 SC, white/blue, modded by POs (more mods coming)"? If so, that is his signature line describing his car, not something he wrote as a description of your car. You both happen to have white/blue cars; his an '85 V8 and your's an '86 V6.

Hi, yes, I didn't realize that at the time, I got it when I looked at his replys to other posts, ;o). It wasn't obvious at first. Thanks. Ian.

Where are the nine now?
Hi Mike, not a problem, it was great to see the pics there, Ihad tried to do it myself earlier with no luck so posted them in album, Good job ,Thanks. Regards Ian.
Where are the nine now?
Is it possible to get a list of the nine serial numbers? (where they built one after the other or randomly in 1986). How many are actually left?
Where are the nine now?
Hi. Can anyone tell me the part number of the heater matrix as I need to replace mine.
Re: Where are the nine now?
Please explain your request so the silly Americans here can understand it and get you a proper reply.Argo wrote:Hi. Can anyone tell me the part number of the heater matrix as I need to replace mine.
Heater core
Heater hose
Heater control panel
And of course we would need to know if the car has factory AC.

Where are the nine now?
Hi. I need a heater matrix for my 1986 3.8 V6 McLaren and all places I have tried want part numbers. I have received a link from 4-barrel Mike for this part and many others. It's like being in a sweet shop. Thanks Mike😊.
Parts
I still don't understand which part you are talking about when using the word "matrix". I listed the common heater replacement parts in the previous post.

Hi. Yes it is the heater core .we know it as heater matrix. Like hood and bonnet. trunk and boot and fender and wing etc.😊. Ian.
Part
Ah, that makes sense now. I tried a translation but that did not work.
AC cars use a different one than non-AC cars. The heater core is a tough 6-8 hour job on an AC car. You want to use the best part available so you don't have to do it again. The Motorcraft (Ford) copper/brass heater core was the best part, Motorcraft HC5 Heater Core. Unfortunately, they no longer make them. The current Motorcraft heater cores are aluminum. There is no verdict on these new ones yet. I do see they advertise a 10 year warranty now.
Ford parts also sold a replacement heater core E9LY18476A and is obsolete I believe.
The old Motorcraft parts which lasted a long time had a the angled tube soldered to the end plate. Take a look at the picture and you will see the angled tube.
For non-ac cars, replacing the heater core is a 15 minute job so any brand can be used.

ac
I would suspect the same. If any were without AC, I would speculate it was the budget 6 cylinder models. It does make a difference to get the right part.negusm wrote:I don't think so.4-barrel Mike wrote:Kevin, a question of ignorance: did they make any non-AC McLarens?
