A simple shock and spring upgrade could work...Eibach springs with Koni shocks...I'd also upgrade to poly bushing everywhere.

You could also go with the above and ALSO upgrade rear control arms. Steeda, Saleen, UPR all make nice rear components. Do uppers and lowers…you WILL feel the difference.

If you wanted to go all out you could do all of the above to the rear AND a complete aftermarket K-member in the front with tubular a-arms, coil overs and castor camber plates.

Oh and don’t forget to add subframe connectors while your at it…you will def feel the difference there too.

Go all out

Go for IRS. Lots of people do it. Sounds nice but I have never experienced the difference. It's bolt in.

It is? I have heard people putting it in but there are some modifications required.

Is there an aftermarket IRS for Fox cars yet?

IRS mods

Post by svo413 »

I think Mustang Monthly covered it recently. I think the only mods are some drill some bolt holes, correct brake lines and of course the exhaust. I know a local guy that did it. I have seen parts for sale somewhat reasonably priced.

Aftermarket yet, probably but I don't really know.

The only issue with the IRS is it pushes out the rear track just a bit more then the fenders. Will definiaty need to roll the fender. But yes it is fairly bolt in.

eeek. Rolling the quarters can't really be undone.

Can you get shorter axles or something to bring it back in?

MMM..not sure. You could have custom rims made with a different offset to bring them back under.

My friend did it to a 83 Capri and used 16inch LSC wheels that are like ASC wheels, they fit without rolling the quarters. Had to drill around the quid shock area for cradle bolt up.

there are many upgrades that you can do, it depends on how far you want to go, and how you want the car to performe. if you want to do better in the twisties than you will want to go a completly differant way than if you want straight line acceleration. mm&ff has a book out specificly on mustang suspinsion and chassies that can give you some solid info :D
