An ascMcLaren forum for 84-86 Capri and 87-90 Mustang based cars modified by Automotive Speciality Corporation, a Division of American Sunroof Corporation. (no affiliation)
We now find ourselves in the market for an ASC/McLaren. We are looking for a nice one, 86+ but we prefer the 88+ due to the different mirrors and door tops. 5-speed cars are the best, though we may consider an AOD car. We are not looking for one of those super rare, low mileage, mega $$$ cars though, just a really nice driver. I should also mention the we don't mind a tastefully modified car, just nothing too over the top. We are definitely not originality freaks, just freaks.
Hi! I've got an '88 that I have been thinking of selling. I got it a few months ago, and love it, but don't really fit in it. I'm way overweight, and my middle is right against the wheel. Perhaps you saw it on eBay a few months ago. It's 1-of-12 gray, automatic, and all stock. 110K miles. Needs some minor things, nothing special. Almost new tires. Drives great, starts right up.
Glad you had found us. I was just wondering how much you are looking to spend, if you have any preferences in colors, you mention 5spd over an auto, are you looking to modify the car yourself, do you need MAF?
I will keep my eyes open for something that might interest you. Also can give you some links to keep checking out. Right now is probably a good tme to buy one, spring time tends to bring a wider selection but also prices can be higher the closer to summer you get. Danstarley has a beautiful car, the person with the 1 of 12 grey. I would talk to him. Good Luck!!!
1987 Ford Mustang ASC McLaren #161 series 1
first year for the ASC Mustangs
White maroon int black top 5.0 automatic with shift kit. 73k miles
Just redid the entire body, fresh paint. AC CD PW PDL
5 lug conversion with upgraded 16” wheels with Goodyear tires. Originals are only 15”
New: Cat back flow master exhaust, radiator and T stat, battery, heater core, Front struts and weatherstipping. Some int work just redone. Great cruising car without the ugly boot over the top when down. 7500.00

I am thinking we would like to spend between 6 & 8k, but I may be open to a bit more for the right car... you know how the "right car" syndrome can get you!

It sounds interesting except for the auto... and the Arizona thing. Last time I bought a car in Arizona, it was destroyed when I was rear-ended by a semi in Little Rock on the way home.
I have been taken to task on this.....but I still feel I am correct.
On the 9 - 1986 Automatic Capri Coupes, it is my understanding that they got a Special Order Axle Ratio, of 3.73:1 in liew of the normal 3.23:1 ratio given a Mustang GT Auto or a Capri RS Auto. Now, I can tell you that mine with 866 original miles on her and never in rain, nor left UNattended, absolutely flys, like no other car I have ever driven. She is 100% stock, from ascMcLaren. I have driven other 'Stangs & Capri 5.0 cars with automatic, and they no way have the "explosion forward" feeling that mine has. Sadly, I cannot recall any other '86 ascMcLaren Coupe owner on this site. (Not talking EuroCoupe) with an auto tranny.

Your door tag should show the code if that is true unless asc did some kind of switch at their plant. If asc did it, they would have to reconfigure the speedo gear as well. (not like they already didn't have to since they changed the tire size).

I see you repainted the car, what sort of work needed to be done that caused you to repaint? What kind of paint did you use? Was there any rust? How is the interior? O What brand weatherstripping? What brand struts? I see you do a lot of Mustang stuff, are you selling this as a side business, or was it your driver? Will Jessica leave Burt? Will Burt run away with the alien? Will the alien leave Burt for Jessica... oh wait, that was Soap. Anyway, if you get a chance, let me know.
