Quite THE phone call !!

Post by Sandy »

Phone rings this morning, about 11AM. "Hello, Sandy" ? <the voice asks> ... ... " Yes, that's me " I reply.... This is Peter Muscat, how are you ? he askes..... after 20 min we said goodbye. Very interesting.
He'll be coming from Malta to NYC and will more than likely give me a call and we'll be getting together. He actually requested to see my cars!

He wanted my feedback regarding the new one, and told that he has 5 made up, but that they will not be sold, they are prototypes. Says he has 103 orders allready. THAT surprised me. Looks like they will be going for around $40,000 a piece. About $25,000 for the car & $ 15,000 for the conversion. These will not be re-painted. He will be setting up shop near Flat Rock, Mi. near the Mustang plant, to do the conversions. 500 will be made. Sadly, he missed the time frame for the N.Y. Auto Show. I asked him if he has brochures yet, and he said no. I asked him when he has them made up, to send me some that I will take to Ford dealers in my area. There are at least 4 or 5 that know his name, from the ascMcLarens that they retailed.
He seems like a very nice & exceptionaly polite man. I was flattered by his call to me.
I said that I like the roof in the UP posistion very much, and he told me that the rear side quarter windows are specially made because of the roof's slope. I mentioned that I thought that the rear deck looked too loooong because the roof cover was flat, and looked like a continuation of the deck lid. I thought this could be broken up by making the cover a contrasting color, so that the eye would not "see" it (the deck lid & cover) as all 1 piece. I complimented the added vent just behind the front wheel cutout. These are of course not called ascMcLarens as neither company is or was involved, it's all Peter Muscat, start to finish.
We also spoke of the 12 "Silver Anniversary Edition" 1990s that were never really made, except for the one in Fla & mine. He was, of course, not familiar with that, as that was ascMcLaren's project.

All in all, it was a pleasant sueprise & I do hope we can meet in the near future. Will keep 'ya all posted. I do believe, allthough Peter did not say it, that he has visited here. This is an "educated guess" ...

Peter Muscat, father of our ascMcLarens has developed a 2007-08 Retractable hardtop / convertible based upon a stock showroom Mustang. They will come as a 6 Cyl base model, or a GT V-8. The car begins as a normal convertible. Peter removes the Ford installed convertible top and the frame and all related hardware, then removes the back seat & convertible "well" area that the top folded down into. He installs a fastback roofline hardtop, that folds in the middle and lowers into the area formerely occupied by the back seat & convertible top stow, leaving the trunk as was from ford. On AutoBlog there is a 70 second movie of it.

By the waay, I forgot to say that the units that will be sold to the public will have a more powerful motor and will raise & lower the top in 21 seconds. The film car takes 37 seconds. I timed it. 16 seconds have been trimmed.

You might wanna touch base with him. Use the e-mail address at the end of the movie clip. Peter Muscat. The car (conversion) is growing on me. I am liking it more. But, at $40,000 + >> I'm not a buyer. I mean, I've got two of them (The 2 - 1990s) and I really can't use another 2 seater. I am thinking of selling the 2003 Town Car Daily Driver, Grocery Getter, Home Depot visitor, family toter, everyday transportation as I have a buyer, a waiting byer, with $20,000 for it. That Buick Lucerne CXL is looking very very good to me. Local dealer has one on the showroom floor that's "sold" but I got to see it and I fell hard for it. Cadillac Northstar V8 under hood, and every creature comfort going....but if you look in the dark corners, & snoop around here & there.....it's no Town Car! Where I have vinyl, it has plastic grained to look like vinyl. Where I have leather, it has vinyl. I am doing teeth right now, so I cannot go for a new Town Car. $8.500 Dental Bill. I also like the Azerra (Hyundai). THAT is SOME car ! But, I will not buy foreign. So...No new car, I guess.

I like the idea, but in my opinion they removed the best part of the new Mustang, the little side windows that remind me of the early Shelby's. Without those windows it looks kind of blank to me.

That's a very nifty top. The car might be well-served to have a nifty paint job to set it off from the crowd as well, but I guess it would add too much to the cost to do such a thing.

I have no clue. Mine are definately worth the most - but how high IS high?

'90 with every option, flawless, as new. 2,327 miles Azura Blue / Blue / Blue THE Final ascMcLaren made ! Documented.

'90 Silver Anniversary Editon ( 1 of 2 that remain) 7,327 miles, totally flawless, as new, I purchased "used" from the proprietor of the New Hampshire Auto Museum. Silver /Scarlet / Black top. All options. # 4 of the 12 original

Both are Automatics. All original

'86 Capri Coupe, Not yet unwrapped. 866 miles. Solid Roof, no T-Top, nor Pop Up Sun Roof. Automatic / Power Locks / A/C # 109 of 115.
As new.

My damn monthly storage bill is $ 537.00. BUT, I cannot stand to part with them. The 1986 has been with me as long as my Son.

What is the price of a 1990 ascMcLaren in today's dollars?
Let's see, if an ascMcLaren cost $20,000 in 1990, the cost in today's dollars would be as follows, according to an inflation calculator:

What cost $20000 in 1990 would cost $31362.85 in 2006.

Thus, new Muscat Mustang is going to cost significantly more than our cars, even taking into account inflation. Some of the increase is no doubt attributable to all of the extra equipment, airbags and so forth that are standard fare on today's Mustangs . . . I wonder how much.
