'88 FOR SALE

Post by danstarley »

My '88 is for sale. As much as I love this car, because of my big belly and bad back, I can not lean forward enough to get into it when the top is up. Many of you probably know this car, it's the dark grey one that I bought on eBay about six months ago. It's in good shape and drives great. The only things I have done to it are a new serpentine belt and a set of ASC/McLaren floor mats (for $100!). It needs a few minor things that I never got around to, but nothing big. The photos in My Album are the original eBay photos by the previous owner...nothing has changed. I've gone ahead and bought a '90 Cadillac Allante which fits much better due to the higher top. I sure would like to sell the McLaren here before putting it back on eBay. Please let me know if you're interested. I will work with you the best I can.

Boy, she's a beauty. You'd better take a nice cool shower and think this decession over really well. You'll never find one that rare & that clean, again.

The teeth are beginning to stop hurting. But, I pulled a muscle in my back - unknowingly and now I am walking 20% bent over, and in back pain. Seems I just can't win. One thing after the next. But, this will pass in a day or two or three... The stitches still hurt. Tonight I am ordering out cheese manicotti, that is soft. I have had it with scrambled eggs, tuna fish & soup & pudding & jello and mashed potatoes & ice cream and cream of wheat. The cheese manicotti will come with a large piece of hard Italian beard. My son suggests that I place it on the table and get artists supplies and paint a "Still Life" of the bread. Smart @$$ !

Sorry to hear it didnt work out with you and the car. :( Congrats on the Caddy I hope that better suits your needs. You bought this car from a guy in Florida correct? I remember seeing it.

Thanks Nick. It came from Michigan from an elderly gent. I gave it my best shot because I really loved the McLaren. It's getting hot here in Phoenix, and if you can't get in the car with the top up, then you have no A/C. That's not good!

Wow I wonder if there was another one for sale then cause I could of sworn seeing a very similar car like yours for sale down in Florida. I do remember for a fact that in one picture you could see a 1989 Turbo Trans Am Pace car next to it. Ah that is on my dream sheet too some day to own. Please don't be a stranger around here after she's gone. Really wish you could keep her as a winter car in Az at least hehe... Oh and post some pics of the Caddy, the Allante is a sharp looking car! Imo they did a much better job on that car then the newer one on the Vette platform. I remember the Buick Reata, the Chrysler Maserati TC was it called? Reminds me again of Ford's short comings. They designed a beautiful two seater prototype Lincoln called the Vignale. Then the bean counters stepped in and cancelled it on the belief that the demand for the two seater luxury car market would be short lived. Sure the American versions from GM and Chrysler were short lived but the foreign Mercedes with an all new SL only did better, as well as the Jaguar.

Nick :)

I've not seen another gray one for sale, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been one. When I first started looking for a play car I was interested in the Allante, the Reatta, the Chrysler TC, and any special edition Mustang. I hated the top sticking up on the regular Mustang convertible, but the McLaren was great in that respect. I didn't care much for the TC. The Reatta was a six. The Allante was fine. Ah, the McLaren was perfect. Great looking...I always liked the fox body, most parts were available at a reasonable price, and there was a ton of extras, books, parts, and about anything else you can think of. I never even considered that I would have a problem getting in. My Allante is pearl white with a black interior. I has just enough clearance with the top up for me to bend forward and get my head in. A few inches makes a big difference. If I could afford to I would keep it, but one play car is all I can swing!
