Wayne L-M in Wayne, N.J. (where I bought my Coupe) had 12 ascMcLarens on the ground. Here is a listing (1986)
Coupes:
Smoke Automatic w/Orange Pwr. Locks - MINE
Black Automatic w/Locks & Pop Up Sun Roof
Black 5-Speed w/Pwr. Locks
White 5-Speed Pop Up Sun Roof
Navy 5-Speed w/ Pwr. Locks
Navy 5-Speed w/ T-Tops & Pwr. Locks
Navy Automatic w/ Pwr. Locks
White EuroCoupe w/ Orange rims & Pop Up Sun Roof
6 Convertibles:
2 Red with Tan Both Automatic
2 White. 1 with navy top & interior & 1 with tan top & interior Both Auto.
1 Spring Special 6-Cyl. Sterling Silver with Chaercoal Int & Black top Automatic,
Ground effects, color keyed mesh wheels, Pwr. Locks, Recaros, etc..
1 Black with Tan top & Int, standard seats, non Recaro V-8 Gold Rims
Later on, when I went back there to order some parts (before I knew Hank Huisman) they had gotten a few more, including what was actually my favorite.
The few more were: A EuroCoupe in Black with black mesh rims and a T-Top and a white Convert with Automatic and navy top & navy Recaros.
and the one I went nuts over...
Okay.... it was the Spring Special....so, okay, it was a Six Cyl. but I just loved it.
Paris Blue Metallic with thr Regatta Blue interior and the Dark Blue cloth top, Automatic with the Six Cyl. with Recaros and the wood trimmed dash & console, and the ground effects from the coupes and color-keyed Paris Blue Mesh wheels wit polished rim.
The L-M dealer that was closest to my house (Montclair Lincoln-Mercury) small in town dealer had only one ascMcLaren. A coupe, White, orange stripes, 5-speed NO options, orange rims. I recall the dash plaque # (Oh, it was a 1986) was # 18
My Azura Blue car came outta the Ford Dealer in Pittsburg, Pa. I 4-get the name.
My Silver Anniversary Car came to me with 6,000 miles on it. It was sold in Mass. to the owner (Manager?) of the New hampshire Auto Museum where he used it from June to August, as a cruiser and then put it on display IN the museum from Sept thru May, top up - windows cracked a bit open and roped off!! In the 12 years he owned her, he put on 5,000 miles, or an average of 416 miles a season. She was (and is) flawless.
Silver with Scarlet interior & a black top (STILL waiting for her Aresma Silver Roof !!)
Her Dash Plaque is # 1904 the 5th of what was to be 12 Silver Anniversary Editions. 1900-1911.

The dealership I worked at back then sold a couple of them.
Larry Albedi Lincoln-Mercury in Vallejo California. (Jeff Gordon's home town by the way) Larry actually got Jeff his first stock car try out in the Thunderbird Busch car, back in 1992 or so, via the head of Ford SVO. Who knew?
Anyway, I remember seeing Larry's son test drive a dark blue McLaren hatchback with orange trim, burning rubber down the street of course!
We also received one dark blue Capri from Ford that was supposed to be a McLaren. But somehow the car came directly to the dealership without going to the ASC factory. Oops. The customer was not happy but ended up buying the car anyway. We seemed to have had to shmooze the guy forever along with his spoiled rotten kid who actually got the car. The kid beat that car to death all day long. Drove me crazy. If that kid was mine I would have shot myself. Who would give a teenage kid a brand new McLaren (Capri) hot rod? I'm amazed he didn't get himself killed. He drove like a typical teenager of the times I guess.

I remember seeing an 87 or 88 or 89 red mcLaren in our Local dealership in the showroom floor back then. She was red with tan interior, and possible a tan top (the top was down). Can't remember the exact year as it was long ago, but she sure caught my eye.
That was at Purvis Ford in Fredricksburg, Va....

I bought my first 1985 coupe at Hines Park Lincoln Mercury in Plymouth Michigan in July, 1985.
It was stolen in May 1986.
I bought my second couple at Northtowne Lincoln Mercury in KC in July of 1986. It was one of the last new left in the country and found there by ASC staffers. It was Charcoal/Orange, but I told them I'd take it if the dealer flew me out and ASC changed the stripes and wheels when I got home. I paid for materials--they did the labor.
I have some of the paperwork still. Boy, I'd sure like to find another '85 in nice shape!
