They had a little bit of a weather problem at this years Russo & Steele auction. Apparently a microburst storm hit and damaged approximately 400 cars.

One of which was an 11 original miles 1992 SAAC Mustrang. It has hood, roof, fender and window damage. There are Shelby's with caved in roofs, busted up Corvettes and many more.

Drew the owner was on TV Friday after it happened and couldn't apologize enough. Several members from our Mustang club worked the show and were there when it happened (I live just 2 miles west of where R-S was). I walked through R-S on Monday morning.One car was fine and the one next to it was trashed. I really wanted to see the Tucker Conv, but it was already moved out. I better check my classic insurance on my '89. I thought I was covered for anything with agreed value of $15k. It's insured with Heacock.

what was it a rock storm? wtf? how does a storm cave in the roof of like 100 cars. when it rains it pours i guess.

I believe most of that damage is from the metal poles used to support all the massive tents they put the cars under. Winds blew, poles fell.

Was anyone hurt? I'd hate to be squished under one of those poles.

In the end they are all just cars. Cars can be fixed.

Sorry-I should have posted more info for those of you not in AZ. A tornado touched down right on that spot. The winds that blew the tents away and caused the poles to trash the cars. One tent landed on the 101 freeway, closing it in both directions for a few hours.

One person had some scrapes. The R&S crew stressed during the event that everyone's safety was priority one, and as stated the cars could be fixed.

I read a note from a member of the Triumph club who got trapped under a tent for a short while. He said things happened faster than anyone could imagine. He found his way to the semi that R&S had ordered with cement blocks to stabilize the tents. The couldn't deploy them fast enough once they got word of the impending storm.

I know the feeling. I watched as a hail storm wrecked my '78 Camaro Z-28 back in 1983. I was inside of a store when it hit. The sound on the roof was like 100 cattle running across the roof. The Camaro had dents in it , smashed out glass, headlights etc. Sad day!

They crappy thing is yes the restored ones can yet be restored again but if they were all original, well they are only original once.

I agree. I saw a 1 of 65 oriinal low mielage 1970 Superbird that was wrecked at R&S.

For a few years I drove my '85 Mustang (when it had 12K orig miles) to work and arked it way out in a corner of the lot. A lady cut across traffic got hit went over the sidewalk and broadsided the 'Stang. They did a great job repairing it and I still have it (27K miles now) but its not all original anymore.

I don't know, the damage sure wasn't same. Some of those cars had serious damage and others just scratches and minor dents.

a few of the verts that had the A pillar/frame completely laid flat - bad....

I have the image in my head of everyone taking cover in shelter of the building or wherever, waiting till the tornado was gone, then everyone stampeding to their car to survey the horror.

Some people take that stuff in stride well. I would've needed some tums and a bottle of tylenol..... oh, and maybe a few drinks with my friends, Jim and Jack..........

I woulda been totally devistated. I woulda cried.
All the love, money spent, energy spent, all the insurance pewmiums, all the washing, waxing, detailing, always parking 1/4 of a mile away from the fron t door of the highway super-stores to avoid door dings and scratchs from Toyo owners and the car covers, and the upkeep and the work to keep them to the highest level of perfection, and in a matter of merely minutes to have it all taken away from you, and have smashed your prized possesion to pieces....damn right - I would cried !

Just remember....every time your car crosses over the end of your driveway and into the street.....YOU are chancing losing it.
Your can "restore" it many times, but it's only all original...ONCE!

And these people that have these cars, (ok not all of them) put serious $$$$ in their cars. Our cars are worth what, $3K to $20K depending on the condition, rarity, and options? The cars at russo and steele, and others are worth many times more than that. I have a friend whose put over $100K each into two different 50s era cars. I know he would've had a heart attack.......
