Another 88 ... is this Black Cherry?

Post by KHummel66 »

If I understood the color build info correctly, didn't all the Black Chery cars come with a tan top? Isn't this one Claret Wine?

Currently undervalued he says?

I don't know how I feel about that statement. What about you guys and girls?

Ouch! took a look at the ebay ad. Currently overpriced is more like it.

I'd pay the $500.00 starting bid, but no further would I go! I can see alot of cash being spent by the new owner.

At least when I got mine, all the panels were, and still are 99.9 % undamaged.

The Claret roof color was available on the 1988s, with a paint color of Black-Cherry Metallic !! Here is how the 27 Black-Cherry 1988s were made:

20 with "Wine" roof & Sand Beige Interior
03 with Sand Beige Interior & Tan Roof
02 with Lt. & Med. Grey Interior & a Black Roof
02 with "Wine" Roof & Lt. & Med. Grey Interior
27 in Color of Black-Cherry Metallic

The paint color was not offered in 1987, 1989 nor 1990. It was
an exclusive color to 1988.
Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

I think he means that ASC McLaren's in general are undervalued in the marketplace, I don't think he is referring to his in particular. Sandy could make that comment about his cars being so nice, but he can't.

And again, what a damn shame, wonder what happened to this one, accident? or just not cared for in the least? or both.

Plus its a 5 speed car, that probably makes it even more rare. Love that color combo............ Black Cherry, Tan interior, and Wine top. Amazingly it has its original wheels. He needs to post more pictures somewhere else, 3 ain't enough. IMHO, I think $3,100 is a little too optimistic given what I see, $1,000-2,000..... is more like it.

I believe this is a different owner than the first one on craigslist. I was talking to someone in peoria who had an 88 they were going to part out and had agreed to sell me some parts, then the whole car was sold to someone who was going to restore it. It was in Peoria and the guy bought it locally. I am glad to see they kept it together, but from what the previous owner was saying that the floorboards and most of the structure was corroded out.
