Headliner blows out on my 86 Capri RS !!!

Post by capri50asc »

Guys

Please make a note of this and check your headliners on your 85-86 Capri's Mustangs and McLaren's . Last weekend I took my '86 Capri RS for fall cruise and as I was entering the freeway I decided to "Get on it!" As I hit 3rd and then 4th My speed was buried at 85 mph with the needle pointing south. It felt good as the freeway was clear with no traffic. But, all of sudden the headliner dropped from the sunroof back to the hatch and was flapping in the wind! I have had this Capri for almost 20 years and it is never left out in high heat or driven in bad weather. The headliner has always been perfect and not peeled back on any of the corners. The adhesive was dried out from the sunroof latch back. I did order a can of Loctite headliner adhesive and finished the repairs tonight. I did have both side windows down and the sunroof was closed when it fell down, so I think the build up of air pressure got under the large molding and sucked it down.

Double check yours ,its very hard to repair with out help!

Chris

You will need to replace the headliner. The adhesive doesn't go bad, but he foam does.

Shiny Side Up!

Headliner '86 Capri

I checked it this morning and the Loctite Headliner Adhesive is holding it like new. I could not even peel it off. The Adhesive has a way of even removing the air pockets and bubbles.

Good to Go!

Thanks Chris :)

I am not worried 'bout that ~~ unless they start blowing out while parked in a garage. This year - 2010 - I had the toys out less than normal (and you know what "normal" is.) Reason being - I was sicker this year from the Chemo, than I was last year, or the year before that, and the year before THAT. The 2 'Verts were out. 2 x on the blue one & 3 times on the silver. Zero on the coupe. Coupe got run (in place) 4 times, each time she ran for 30 minutes, Caddy got out several times, maybe 5 or 7 times. Put on a good 165 miles, for the year.

Excellent - 16 days @ month :) and like warmed up. leftover siht 14 days @ month. :puke: :destroy :(

Not bad, as I can plan things when I am gonna be fine, and leave the sick days blank. Sad part is that I can't work. Nobody will hire someone who can only show up 1/2 a month. So, I go food shopping with my wife, wash cars alot (ours) aimlessly walk around mauls (Oops, Malls) and go on this devise.
