I need to vent!

So, my 2006, Ford 500, AWD Limited has a bad transmission at 68,000 miles. None of the local Mom and Pop places can work on it, but they can't get parts from Ford. So, I'm calling my local Ford dealer. They can't take me until April 12th. I call everywhere near-by, and I get more of the same. Finally, the Oakland, MD, 18 miles away, dealership can take me Monday morning, Mar 30th.

$4,800 for a rebuilt tranny. $5,800 for a new one w/ a 75,000 mile waranty. No brainer, right? They get the tranny apart. Oh! My front axels are shot! They will change them and just charge me parts! $654.

Up to $6,500-ish w/out tax!

The car was suppose to be ready today. They'll call me when it is done. They wait until 15 mins from closing time to call. They tell me they test drove the car. The brand-new-right-out-of-the-box transmisson is junk!

Okay, I've been very nice so far..... I asked for a loaner. That S.O.B., and I don't mean Special Olympics Booster, told me that because I didn't buy the car from his dealership, he wasn't going to give me a loaner! I'm still calm, and I say, "I just spent close to $7,000 at your dealership, plus, you guys are going to get paid again by Ford because you have to redo it. Please cut me a break.

Nope, told me to call Ford. Then, that SOB refused to pick up the phone when Ford called the dealership!

Ford loyalty! - Bah!
Ford Quality - Hah!
My next car will be a Honda!

I filled complaints w/
1.) BBB
2.) FTC
3.) NHSTA
4.) Ford
5.) If I missed anyone, let me know!

I just reviewed your post. My company purchased over 350 2010 Ford Fusions. All 4 Cyl with the GM designed 6 speed Trans. Model 6F35. This transmission has a 20%-25% failure rate. My trans went out at 11,000 miles
and the dealership here in Plymouth Michigan acted like it was the first bad transmission they had seen. It took them over 3 weeks to repair it and "yes"
it is still bad. Slips , clucks, and jumps between gears. Many owners of these 2010 Fusions are having problems. The dealership just does not care and I do not think the mechanic understand how they work or how to repair them.So many of my co-workers are having the same problems, I think these are a problem My wife has the Honda Ridgeline which I purchased new and it has 54,000 miles on it now...................Nothing has gone wrong with it. When I'm at the Ford dealership its packed with cars and garage is full of cars. The Honda dealership is very quiet and most of the service bays are empty and this is at two of the biggest dealerships in my area.

The Fusion is made in Mexico The Honda is made in Alabama

What do you guys think?

Look. You are going to experience the mst wonderful thing in the world. You are going to become a Daddy. You & the woman that you love, are going to bring a person that is 1/2 you and 1/2 your bride. Can you top that ?

#2 That is all very wrong of that dealer and as you may know, I was in the auto business for "only" 27 years. Can you perhaps "stay cool" enough to explain all of this to your local BBB (Beter Business Bureau) who might intervine, in your behalf? They will have a cooler head than you would have. You are right. But, you are too HOT to taste the soup. A cooler head might be low keyed and might move the mountain towards your side.

How did you wreck your yellow McLaren ? (('Ya, that would rattle me more)!

IF you lived in Northern NJ - I could help you. My Ford-Lincoln Dealer & I are pretty close. I have bought 3 Lincolns there and have all my asc/McLarens service needs there. We are pretty "tight" ! I was the ONLY Non-Employee to be invited to the annual Christmas/Hanukkah Party and like all the employees, i too, redcieved a GIFT !
If I have to leave my car for service. I get a Lincoln loaner.
Yes, I could help you - but .....too far away.
What state is "KINGWOOD" in ?????

Just out of curiosity, why isn't the original 68,000 mile tranny covered under warranty? If the new replacement is covered for 75,000 miles, it seems that the original should be covered for at least another 7,000 miles.

They almost make it so you have to lease cars.

After that $7k you've pretty much shot any savings you would have gotten trying to own the car out right.

Ford has been doing very well lately but they can't slip back and start making crap again.

I hate to hear things like this. I just bought a new 2011 f150 with the 5.0 coyote and new 6 spd trans. I hope I don't run into any issues. Although, I'm pretty close with people at my dealership.

Eric,

Hope you have the luck I've had with Fords since 1966. Bought a bunch of new ones, a few used ones and had very few problems.

I got rid of an '07 F150 in October and went back to an Expedition (With the six speed auto) and it's a dream! Surprisingly we're getting over 18MPG in our everyday driving which has very little highway driving. Way better than the V-6 and auto in the '07 F150.

The Fusion has a Japanese tranny made by Aisin and they got a bunch of bad valve bodies from a supplier. That has caused a lot of problems. One of my friends had his recalled and the tranny was rebuilt with a new valve body. No trouble yet.

Geez. really sorry to hear that. I hope it works out the best it can. I completely understand your position, hate to see Ford lose another customer though. I've never had such a situation like that at all with Ford.

Ford transmission

You are right Ken, the 5 speed transmission was bad also. this was made in Japan for Fords. My brothers '09 Fusion with the V-6 failed at 55,000. The transmission in the '10 Ford Fusion is the new 6-speed which is made in Romeo Michigan at the Van Dyke Transmission plant. The recall notice is 10B15. I some cases a reprograming of the Solenoid regulator valve bore will fix the problem . But, the transmission could fail if the 4th.5th and 6th gear do not get the right pressure from the valve body. The follow cars have this transmission:

2010
Ford Fusion
Ford Escape
Mercury Milan
Mercury Mariner all with 2.5 liter 4 Cly

Chris,

I went ahead and purchased a used, very clean '09 Fusion SEL V6 with that 6 speed transmission. I did hear alot about the transmission failures and did alot of online investigation before I purchased. One thing I found out right away is that you are supposed to have the transmission fluid changed every 30,000 miles as opposed to normally much higher mileage like 75,000-100,000. I wonder if people are doing that. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't. I'm not saying this is why there are tranny failures, but it sure wouldn't help if you wait till 70,80, 90 thousand miles to do it. Plus Ford can then lean on that documentation of lack of service if the customer did not have the fluid changed at 30,000 to get out of liability to stand behind the transmissions.

Yours failing at 11,000 is of course unacceptable and should be fixed FOC from Ford.

I see a ton of Fusions out there every day. They must be pretty good cars

The issue of where the Fusion is built compared to the ridgeline is a whole other discussion that will open up a whole new can of worms along with politics I'm not going to get into. I don't know how much that matters as Ford's quality has been going up the last decade quite a bit.

I will say this, I was at a medium-large size Ford dealership Tuesday to have the tires rotated. I was in the service garage area which is rather large, it was about 75% full, but there were many non-Ford cars up on racks having who knows what being done to them. I saw gm, chrysler, saab, pontiac, olds, hondas, & toyotas....... Its not all Fords.

Great, now I'm going to be nervous as hell. I just turned up 54,000 on my '09. :( I did have the trans fluid changed at 31,000.

Guess I'll get the owners manual out for the Escape and the Expedition and see what the recomendations are. Used to be 60K.

One reason many people don't like going to a dealership is they try to sell you brake jobs, wipers, and God know what else every time you go in. You can get those routine items done for way much less elsewhere (If you can find a mechanic you trust).

When we took our '93 Escort in for the tranny service they wanted to do an $800.00 brake job!!! Took it to someone I trusted. He called an hour later and said, "Come get your car. There's not a damn thing that needs to be done to your brakes." At 115,000 miles, and before the wear got into the rotors, I had the pads changed. at 145,00 we did the back brakes. Total cost was somewhere around $150.00 total. Wonder why I don't 'trust' dealerships.

Won't even bore you with the horror stories I have about a 1988 Chevy 3+3 Dually we had. And the shafting a Chevrolet dealer did to the warranty company! And us!
