Vehicle numbers

Where do I look to find the numbers for the engine and transmission? I think I have a "numbers matching" 1985 McLaren but want to be sure.

Transmission numbers are vertically stamped on the side of the casing.

For a T5 it's tough to miss.

The engine is stamped on the pad on top closest to the firewall. Sometimes almost impossible to make out.

Just to note that those on the block are easily added or changed later. This has become a real issue in the expensive cars sold as originals as it is impossible to tell when done right.
