Nice car and just about everything matches the 86 build features. I can't figure out the radio. It seems to have wood trim and two posts. 86 should have an ETR radio. Are those the original floor mats? Never saw ASC on the trunk or the horn pad before. What is that rubber bumper in the middle of the door data tag?

Everything on her is 100% correct, with just 3 exceptions:-

1. The front grille has chrome edges. This is wrong. This is a GS grille. The ascMcLarens got the all charcoal-black RS grille. I suspect a front end accident and a bodyshop guy who plain didn't know what was correct.

2. The bumper-body-bumper pin stripe in gold is missing. I suspect a total repaint here, and lazyness in obtaining the stripe.

3. Obviously prior owner didn't know, or let someone else lower & raise the roof, and person or persons didn't know about reaching around & pushing thre fabric out and away from the pins on the tonneau cover.

4. The interior is correct. It's a late 1986, so it has the stock Capri door panels, and was ordered without the Recaro Seat Option, thusly it has the low line GS Capri buckets, recovered in ascMcLaren leather with the acsMcLaren embroidery in the backrest.

5. I definately doubt the 18,000 miles!! No Way ! That breaks out to 2.6 miles a day ~ since brand new. I'd tend to think it's 118,000 miles, or 17 miles a day !

Yes, we've seen her before & from the same dealer - but a long time ago. Funny, in all that time she has not gone 1 mile ! Ummmm.

Sandy,

Isn't the horn pad and antenna wrong also? The last time it was listed it showed a picture of the core support also, it had the hood latch support painted the body color also, which is not correct.

I'm not sure the horn pad is wrong, however, the antenna sure is ! I missed that :(

I know the mustangs started painting the hood latch support by 85 or 86. Possibly the same on the Capri. I don't recall what it even looks like on a Capri.

I assumed the radio antenna was part of the running changes as I think there were discussions that later the antenna was not moved.

Antenna Story

Post by Sandy »

1984, 1985, 1986 All had the antenna (black rubber whip type) mounted on the rear driver's side fender-top. A handfull of VERY early 1987s were fitted with a chrome power antenna mounted in the same spot (Rear Left Fender-top). By like car #12 of the 1987s, the antenna went back to the black whip rear driver's side. 1988 saw some cars get the rear black whip rubber antenna, while others had the Ford Factory stock front passenger-side antenna. 1989 & 1990 also had the Ford Factory front passenger's side antenna.

I have come across 4 1987s with the Power Antenna. It WAS to be a standard equipment feature on ascMcLarens, installed BY ascMcLaren !
I have a blank window sticker for 1987 (Early 1st printing) that actually lists Power Antenna under standard features. I also have a 2nd Edition 1987 blank ascMcLaren window Sticker in which that line is removed !!!

Of the 4 cars with the Pwr. Antenna that I found, on 2 of them the power antenna went up when the stereo was turned on. On the OTHER two, the dead switch on the dash that would have been for the Electric Rr. Defroster on the Coupe -or- the Power Top on a regular Mustang was what put the antenna Up & Down, when the owner pushed that button.
It's a very rare car that has a Pwr. Antenna

 so there is a strong possiblity this one was not only front ended, but could have been rear ended as well??? Why else would the antenne be moved from the back to the front...

Is it not strange how the seller made sure this vehicle did not appear under McLaren by misspelling the vehicle name???

just wondering
