My 86

Post by cataldo1150 »

Hi,
Since 2003 I have owned a 1986 McLaren, 609818. It is a black conv with the gold trim. The McLaren door tag states it was altered by ASC in 2/86. I don't know its history other then I bought it from my brother. I am under the impression it had been owned, either originally or later, by some one in Montana. At some time an owner rode it hard and put it up wet. The original brown top is gone, now it is black. While it runs great, much of the other areas are in bad shape. I redid the Recaro seats and now the radio works in the headrests. The odometer reads 53,000, but if it turned over once is unknown. In the last 10 years I've put about 10,000 miles on it. When I shine it up it is a real head turner, however, black cars and dirt roads don't mix well. As beautiful as some of the cars are on this site I would be embarrassed to show a picture. At 63 its still fun to cruise and y 13 & 10 year old daughters (no mistake, daughters) love it when I pick them up at school in it. Winters in Eastern Washington are hard so it is strictly a summer car. If anyone knows its history I would appreciate hearing it.

Thanks,
Steve

Welcome Steve,

It really does not matter what the true condition of your car is. As long as it brings a smile to you and your familys face when out for a drive. Drive it and enjoy it! It's your pride and joy. Pictures are a bouns and give us something to look at. I feel your pain about the dirt road thing.

Our driveway is 160+ feet long. It was sugar sand and lime rock. What a pain it the patootie keeping tires, rims and the bottoms of cars clean. It is now blacktop and level. No more worries about dragging the spare tire carrier on the Corvette or the rear end of the McLaren. It's flat level and smooth!
