1990 Aqua Cars - Trying To Find Remaining Ones

Post by CocoLoco »

Hi all - I just bought a 1990 Seafoam Aqua. From old posts on the site, I am confused about the whereabouts of the remaining cars.

History - only 5 were made. Posts indicate 2 were destroyed, one re-painted, one was in Ohio and one in NY. I bought the one in NY
from the original owner last month. Don't believe it ever left NY.

I have been talking to Henry (Paradise Auto) about some parts and he says he still has one of the 5 cars. So I am wondering if anyone
knows of or has ever seem another one in the Ohio/Indiana area.

Kind of a mystery to me.

Thanks in advance - Dwight

Whoa, Henry has one? I was down at Henry's place in 2005, and he had sold the one in his picture album to the guy in OH less than 1 year before. Unless he bought that one back, I don't know how he could have one right now. According to Sandy, two were confirmed destroyed, one repainted a dark blue (??!!??), one in OH and one in NY. The guy in NY wanted $24K for the longest time. The highest I ever offered was $14K, and that was in a moment of weakness, seeing I sold my 88 with 18K miles for $10.5K around the same time.

Henry has a couple of warehouses on his land, one is filled with McLarens (both Capri and Mustang), many of them low miles. The other has parts, row upon row of parts. And then his garage area where he works on 'em. When I was down there he was working on the 1990 Pink cart he had just bought, and a Capri he just bought in MA. Didn't even realize it didn't have AC until I pointed it out, that's how new it was. Anyway, makes me want to give Henry a call and see if he did buy back the OH car.

Hi - I have been corresponding with Henry this past week. I was surprised too. He says he has one and the one that was repainted is in a collection in Mantoon, IL. I am trying to get more info and maybe contact the owner if I can. The one I bought was the one everybody had posted about in NY several years ago. It is in good but not perfect condition. I am in the process of getting some new parts for it from Henry. For any of you guys up my way, Henry will be in Carlisle for the Ford Nationals in early June.

Most of the things I need are cosmetic in nature - new tonneau trim (vinyl faded), new roof (holes), wheels (clearcoat peeling and some age issues), a few paint issues (mostly small). I figure by the end of summer I should have it back to near-original condition. I am planning to take it to the MCA Grand Nationals on Labor Day weekend in Columbus. Sure hope I can get it ready in time.

I actually don't have the car yet - it is being transported to me this week. Didn't want to put that many miles on it (over 500) to get it back to the Burgh. So I am sure I will find a few more things once it gets here. Let the spending begin !!!!!!

OK. Just got off the phone with Henry and here is what I think may be the best info we have on these cars today:

1) Henry bought one in California and then later sold it to a collector in Mantoon, IL. This car was re-painted, but in the original color. This is likely where the re-painted story comes from.

2) Henry still owns one he bought in Florida 3-4 years ago. This car was always in Florida. Still original paint.

3) I just purchased the car in New York from the original owner. Still has original paint (except maybe for some touchup). It will be located with me in Monroeville, PA (Pittsburgh suburb).

4) Henry could not confirm the destruction of the other 2 but finds it very possible. Given the info we have, this is likely the case.

So there it is. Henry has more info on these cars and has agreed to look into it a little further. Maybe we will learn more in time.
